Pours an unfiltered dark brown color and sports a creamy light tan head that provides moderate lacing. Looks great in the glass.
The nose has roasty malt notes, some chocolate, a bit of toffee, and some oak from the barrel as well as a little smidge of tart cherry. I didn’t expect that.
The taste has the roasty malt, chocolate, and toffee, and the barrel is definitely present as oak and a warming at the back of the palate, but that bit of tart cherry is what makes this for me - it’s a really nice balance to all of the malt components.
The mouthfeel is medium and a bit dry. I approached this with a bit of hesitation, but that was unfounded - this is a pleasure to drink.
