On tap at the Mule Bar, Winooski, Vermont.
This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a stiff sort of muddy brown color with a finger's worth of quickly dissolving head, barely any lace.
The aroma had a weird sort of cooked apple to cooked bourbon woody glazed sweetness touching down on some brown sugar baked-like quality and then beating on the sweetness of red delicious apples.
The flavor was sweet and baked-like with some dark bread/toast to apple pie-like spice. Aftertaste was moderately sweet, then the "baked spice."
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt on par. Finish was all about the apple pie-like spice with the "bourbon-like" weird baked sweet smoothness.
Overall, odd quad to say the least. Me, I'm left scratching my beard on this one. Hoping they can get the "basics" of brewing a quad down before actually deciding on "bourbon barrel" aging it. Talk to Boulevard, their "Bourbon Barrell-ed" quad is well done.

L: Had this beer on-tap at Capital Ale House - Midlothian, poured into a tulip glass. Had a dark brown color and a thick, murky consistency. There was a thin, off white head that quickly dissipated. Average lacing.
S: A big, enticing aroma of apples, some yeast, spices, wood, and vanilla.
T: Tasted of a fair amount of Belgian-style yeast, a lot of spices (cinnamon, in particular), a hint of vanilla, bourbon (not too much, though), oak, and light malt notes. An interesting and strangely complex flavor. The apples and bourbon seem to play well together. Very tasty.
F: A decent amount of carbonation with a smooth finish. Medium-bodied.
O: This beer is well worth trying. Slightly unusual for a quad, but drinkable nonetheless.

On tap:
Some places I've seen this as a tripel but it's a slightly muddy brown. Lack of head is a tad disappointing.
Big coconut on this, probably from the supposed bourbon barrels (silly brewer site had nothing about this beer) combined with the apple note. I think I'm imagining the cinnamon, but some vanilla comes out as it warms.
I wouldn't say it smells very apple pie-like, but I enjoyed the smell. The taste andvfeel, however, left me wanting. The notes from the nose are present, but the barrel itself sort of took over the flavor. Perhaps the relatively thin feel helped this. Not as much coconut, but more bourbon, along with barrel wood and vanilla, the apple is pretty much lost - as are any dark fruit quad-like notes.
Bourbon barrel dubbel it seemed more to me. A bit of a let down, as the apple and maybe something like caramel maltiness that would have been appreciated were absent.
