Lickinghole Creek’s answer to Allagash Curieux.
Amber hue and surprisingly persistent cap or light beige head and a few scraps of lacing.
Coconut and rum aromas with light-medium caramel maltiness is offset with a solid mid-palate bitterness that hangs through to the finish with a nod to herbal, woody notes with some pine and resin. The barrel notes don’t stop at coconut and rum with a big dose of vanilla and toffee with more caramelized sugar notes.
The flavor is a very balanced, enjoyable beer with sweet barrel notes of vanilla, coconut, and medium caramel/toffee with some boozy Tootsie roll fudge cut with a stiff herbal, woody bitterness. Medium-high bitterness with relatively strong alcohol character but it works well with the malty and hoppy components.
Feel is dangerous, deceptive drinkability with medium carbonation lightening a full body with no cloying sweetness owing to the strong bitterness.
Easily my favorite LCB beer eith easily the most character and interesting nuances. I hope Nugget on Rye can stay in the rotation for a few years at least. A superb effort and well worth seeking out. Beats every beer I had last year by a good margin.
