neat beer, but for the name of it, its really not very hoppy at all. the flavor is excellent, great chocolate malt character and a lot of coffee, but i expected a much hoppier brew with a name like this. lighter in color for a brown ale, pretty clear, and with a thin white head on it. the aroma is rich roasted coffee and dry cocoa from the malt, a little nutty and a little sweet at the same time. i like the coffee with the lighter malt, so often its in with stouts and porters where the roast on the barley and the specialty dark malts sort of do the same thing that the java does, so its lost a little bit, even when its strong. here the malts dont do that dark, so the coffee provided all of that dark roasty character, and it does it nicely here. smooth feel with a little less body than it could have, not quite big enough for the flavors its bringing together. there are some hops in the finish, good balanced bitterness, but this isnt really flavored by the hops so much. i dont miss them honestly though, i like this just the way it is.

On draft. Poured a clear, brown color with a small, khaki-colored head of foam. It some sudsy trails of lace. It smelled of lots of roasted coffee, caramel and toffee. Nice roasty coffee flavors with chocolate, toffee and caramel sweetness. Smooth and medium-bodied.
