this is a model rye pale ale type, and contributes quite a lot. the use of wheat here is outstanding. it gives the beer a lot of texture that is often missing in these rye brews, and it gives a summery semisweet balance to in intense rye malt, another usually absent feature. the grain build on this is the best part, its expert. tons of rye character all the way in nose and taste, no denying it, but the subtle wheat and barley malt elements add a lot, everything has a place and a purpose and a job to do, and they all do it really well. i love beers with this kind of balance. its not quite as aggressively hopped as i thought it might be, still well hoppy, but more bittering and balancing than flavoring, and the grassy nuance gets lost a little in the rye heat. very very drinkable though, profoundly interesting, and not like many others out there. a complex and delicious beer, one of the best i had from cinder block.

On tap. Poured a cloudy, straw-yellow color with a small, off-white head of foam. It smelled wheat, citrus and spicy rye. Sweet wheat with spices and a citrsuy zip.
