Gravity of SmileGravity of Smile
Notes: Gravity of Smile is a hazy double IPA dry-hopped massively with Citra lupulin, Rakau, and Lemondrop. We’re tasting overripe papaya, oranges, lemonheads, and cantaloupe.

16 oz. can filled on-tap at Craft 303 and poured into vertical tulip
(courtesy of @TongoRad)

L: murky yellow-bronze, much more brown than red ... in fact, almost no amber in it, yet it's much darker than standard yellow; topped by thick head of white foam about an inch tall; minor lacing off a thick collar; also keeps a full skin of foam

S: fruit basket ... grapefruit and tropical fruits; lots of sweetness but does have some of that grapefruit bitterness, hoppy enough to almost reach grass or cilantro; as it warms it settles into grapefruit and mango

T: follows the nose closely at first with the initial sip tasting all fruity but not overly sweet; as you get into the glass the reason for muted sweetness becomes clear — this sucker is hoppy ... almost a full-on grapefruit bomb with a building hop bite that's quite bitter; about a third into the pint the malt starts getting that biscuity sweet flavor and balances the hop buildup

F: middleweight with plenty of carbonation; at times it feels light, almost watery, other times it feels much, much heavier and thick ... interesting brew and I like the mix of light/heavy as well as the crispy layer of carbonation

O: very good beer all around and that first sip is remarkable in the huge amount of fruit flavor without tasting overly sweet; the hop buildup is pretty standard fare American IPA stuff, not sure if it's what the New England IPA is supposed to have, but I personally dig it whatever you call it

A: Pours a murky pale golden yellow in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and moderate honey + medium yellow + burnt orange colored highlights. The beer has a finger tall dense foamy white head that slowly reduces to a large patch of slightly mottled thin film covering the entire surface of of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate to significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of juicy citrus/orange, tropical/mango, tropical/papaya, citrus/lemon, stone fruit/peach, and pine/resin hops over the top of light to moderate aromas of biscuit + oat + honey malts with a light to moderate amount of honey sweetness.

T: Upfront there are light to moderate flavors of biscuit + oat + honey malts with a light to moderate amount of honey sweetness. That is followed by moderate to strong flavors of juicy citrus/orange, tropical/mango, tropical/papaya, citrus/lemon, stone fruit/peach, and pine/resin hops which impart a light amount of bitterness which fades away quickly leaving lingering citrus + tropical + pine hop flavors. Light amounts of booziness that linger into the finish as well.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly fluffy mid-body with a light amount of alcohol warming in the finish.

O: Fairly easy to drink with a touch more booziness than I was hoping for/expecting. Enjoyable with a pleasant hop profile and I would be happy to drink another one of these some other evening.

Orange, hazy with a off white head that leaves spotty lacing all over. Bright, acidic aroma with lemon and some sweetness. Sweet and bitter with a piney finish. Pretty great beer.

CANNED ON 8/2/18

Cloudy orange with a solid layer of dense white cream. Smells of peaches, melons, creamy lemon, and pine. Flavor is more mango forward with orange creamsicle, apricot, grapefruit, and a little booze right at the end. Smooth medium-plus feel, pretty dry, and fairly drinkable for the strength. Good - not outstanding in any particular way...

Bright orange and far from transparent. White sticky head... Aroma is delicate and fluffy. Fruit..apple, pear, cantaloupe, pineapple, and maybe something reminiscent of cherry. Taste is full of hops. Tropical fruity with melon, pineapple...hops for days.
