Pours watermelon pink color with lots of sediment chunks floating around that led up to a 2-3 finger thick foamy head that faded in average time and left decent foamy lacing. It made a nice crackling sound as it dissipated and settled in with looks like a smoothie or a fresh juice drink. The aroma was fruity with the apricots and raspberries dominating the profile, which then allow the peaches to come through along with some grapefruit, lemon zest and earthy notes. Malts, spices and general tart/sour notes gives this a very Belgian essence mixed with some oak and general funk. Lots of lingering barnyard aspects the more I dipped my nose in the glass.

I haven't had a wild ale in a while and this reminds me how tasty they can be when done right. In addition to the apricots and raspberries dominating the flavor profile as well, I get strawberries, grapefruit, orange peel, lemon zest, chalky yeast, golden raisins, wet citrus hops, sour fruit punch, light peppery spices, coriander, and then trailing peaches, wet cardboard and sour aspects like a puddle from a farmhouse with that wet leather or muddy hay flavor. Tart in a good way, the fruit gives off sour fruit like a juice blend with the apricots, raspberries and peaches mixed with other fruits such as grapefruit, starfruit and strawberries. It's a watery brew that borders on puckering, but I really enjoyed it and will seek out another bottle...this was very good stuff, well done Grimm.

Poured from a bottle (no date I could find) into a Belgian glass

L: nice dark pink/ruby red color, makes me think of cranberry cocktail. Very effervescent, nice white head, some lacing dies shortly

S: lightly tart nose, some peach/apricot pit aroma, raspberry/framboise as well. Fairly crisp, a bit of this sweeter/almost syrupy end to it

T: let down here. First thing I thought was seltzer water with fruit squeezed into it, hard to shake that impression. Quite thin, mostly raspberry and again I can't help but think raspberry lime spindrift. Get peach/apricot at the end, and think it's great, but overshadowed by that seltzer impression

F: same seltzer issue here, highly carbonated almost stinging and this is after sitting in the glass for several minutes

O: disappointed by this. Can't all be winners, color was the highlight and went downhill from there

2 February 2020 - Beer #18

Price: $18.99 at Food Emporium 8th Ave in Manhattan

Appearance: 5 - a lovely red-orange with a white head, which is still there several minutes later.

Nose: 5 - mmmm... Dried fruit, fresh fruit, all the fruits. It's gonna be sour, trust me.

Taste: 4 - fruity, but not very. Sour, but not very. Good, but not very.

Mouth: 5 - nailed it here. Effervescent and frothy the way a good sour should be.

Overall: 4 - I've never had a truly great Grimm sour. An enjoyable brew, but they always leave me wanting more.

Cheers!

another really impressive wild beer from these guys, all the ones in these little bottles have been killer in my experience so far. many thanks to my brother for sharing. this one is done with peaches, apricots, and raspberries, seemingly in equal proportions, hazy thick pinkish in color, good head on the pour but it settles right down. aroma here is a little less wild and lambic-esque than the strawberry one we had in the same session, but there is nice funkiness to it, just a bit more familiar, maybe a little less mature, not so tannic. the raspberries make my mouth water as much as the sourness does, and i definitely get some clean fresh lemon in the mix as well. the stone fruit is sweet and ripe, natural, and marries in well, this is as fruity as it is beery in the aroma. the flavor really is quite piquant, good bretty funk to it as well, even more than i can smell, and the peaches pop in the center of it, but all three fruits are easily identifiable in this. the tartness is the raspberries is nice against the sweetness of the other two, and the earthy grain base pushes through just enough. a red wine taste to the finish, dark berries and even cherries too, and plenty of wood as it warms up. its juicy and bright, round feeling and tangy in an addictive sort of way. really good stuff here, these guys are killing it, i love these wild ones they do! fun mix of fruit in this one.

Picked this up recently at Grimm, as I've enjoyed the rest of their recent bottles that I've bought. Like those, that had a memorable hue to it and a lovely flavor profile to it that was easy to enjoy, even for someone like me who doesn't drink a ton of America Wild Ales!

The hue of this beer looked like strawberry puree as it came out very cloudy and muddle with plenty of spongy, salmon head to top it off. That quickly settled as there was very little lacing left on the side of my pint glass once I started to work my way through this. Lots of oak, strawberry, raspberry tartness, and fermented peach and apricot in the nose with the fruit really coming through in the taste. Not terribly funky or yeasty, this was a smooth sipper that was somewhat moderately carbonated and pretty slick on the palate.

There wasn't a lot of booze in this one either as that contributed to this beer's ease of enjoyment. Just a few large bits of dark sediment were at the bottom of the liquid when I finished this off as a heavier wooded taste lingered once I finished the liquid off. This was another fun beer from Grimm that would have me, once again, coming back to them for more in the near future!
