Super JourneySuper Journey
Notes: Super Journey is a classy oak-fermented, bright gose spiked with the flavor pleasures of a cherries and limes. We carried out a mixed culture fermentation in our oak foeder, refermented the beer on tart montmorency cherries and limes, dry hopped with Ekuanot, and added a dash of sea salt. The gentle salinity mingles with tart fruit to produce a luscious, thirst-quenching beer as complex as it is refreshing.

Look: Pours a pinkish, peach color with a quarter finger, satin white head of rocky foam. Lots of chunky yeast floaters in the glass, not that I mind. No lacing.

Aroma: Funnily enough turmeric and mace. Like pepper almost. Chili powder. Cumin. Cilantro. . . some sour dough bread and yes, lime.

Taste: Unique and lovely. Really bright, follows the nose. Lots of very clean, floral spice. Rose hip, slightly salty and briny. Turmeric, basil, tarragon, sage, clove and soapy cilantro. . . it's mild and supple, almost velvety. Potpourri like. Spicy floral which develops into tart/dry grapefruit. Only on the aftertaste do the very supple, tart notes of lime zest and semisweet cherry emerge giving the beer a little bit of sweet/sour contrast to the initially dry, herbal flavors.

Feel: Light and refreshing. Low carb, light body.

Overall: Like nothing I've tried before. To me it tastes almost like a scotch gruit or herbed ale with a gose twist. Very interesting and experimental. This is how you do a gose with lime right. It shouldn't overpower the beer with citrus - instead it should provide a supple backdrop upon which the traditional beer flavors can express themselves, like it does here.

A: The beer is very hazy reddish pink in color. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that left a collar around the edge of the glass and lots of wisps of bubbles on the surface.
S: Moderate aromas of limes are present in the nose along with hints of cherries.
T: The taste follows the smell and has lots of flavors of sour limes along with strong notes of saltiness dashes of the juice from a jar of Maraschino cherries.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and tart on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer can definitely be classified as a gose with its sourness and saltiness, but I found this to be much more complex compared to other beers in the style given the variety of flavors. I really liked the interplay between the cherries and limes in the taste, which provided an interesting contrast in flavors.

Picked this up recently at Grimm, intrigued by how different it came across as. Sure enough, this wasn't like anything that I've had before in terms of the look or taste as this beer drew me in from the first sip and was a great choice for the burgeoning spring season!

Loved the pink grapefruit hue to this liquid as it surprised me during the pour. The haze in it even look like pulp as the salmon head came across like whipped jello. Not a lot of lacing left behind as there were just a few scattered, soapy sections in the middle of my pint glass. Tons of wood, star fruit, and cherries in the mix as this was quite light and tart on the nose. The taste was wonderfully slick and easy to enjoy without a lot of salt or odd flavors; even from the foeder fermentation. A lot of the salt settled to the bottom but even with that in mind, this was like a nice spring day minus the wind!

It didn't even seem that there was any booze in this as I could have easily had another bottle after finishing this off. A floral undertone like hibiscus or lavender took hold once I finished this off as the tartness was just at the right level. Lovely stuff that was truly super!
