Notes:
Brewed in collaboration with Kane Brewing.
Imperial stout with toasted walnuts, maple syrup, vanilla & sea salt.
Waffling is a roasted, toasted, nutty delight of a stout. Big, warming aromas of freshly baked walnuts dominate the nose with a scrumptious drizzle of maple sweetness. A loaded malt bill of roasted, caramel, and chocolate malts deliver a super plush mouthfeel and perfect toastiness–never cloying or astringent–that perfectly complements the rich flavor of the walnuts.

Medium brown in color. Honestly have had better 1st time home brewer’s stouts. No notes of walnuts, vanilla or maple syrup. Very metallic finish. Super bummed. This is a fail all around. Literally poured the bottle down the drain.

Bottle to snifter.
LOOK: murky muddy brown water. big foamy off white head with pretty good retention.
AROMA: nuts and caramel, vanilla and maple.
TASTE: a bit too bitter. walnut is tasty, but leaves a very dry bitterness that even the maple cannot make up for. sea salt may add to this effect.
FEEL: medium body, inconsistent.
Interesting mix of ingredients, but just not all coming together the way that I would think the brewers envisioned.

Pours a cloudy, burly brown color, decent foamy head . Aroma is maple syrup and walnuts, and some vanilla. Walnuts and maple syrup are up front and center, very nice balance between the two. Vanilla appears on the swallow, sea salt is a nice touch. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Just saw that it is 14%. Tastes more like 8%. Dangerous. Overall a very well executed pastry stout, kinda tastes lime waffles and syrup.

This is a weird and for me ultimately unsatisfying beer especially considering its provenance. I found it to be too sweet and oddly lifeless and difficult to drink. There’s a decent amount of maple character but not enough balancing stout notes - essentially no roast or bitterness. Full bodied and a little sticky with low carbonation. After an initial cap of khaki head subsides you’re left with a murky brown muddy looking beer so there’s a lack of visual appeal to boot. I’m quite fond of big stouts and barleywines and used to drinking 16 oz or more at a time but this was a bit of a chore to finish and I think I’d have been happier with say, 5-6oz instead. Not a disaster by any means but not anything id recommend particularly considering the price point.
