This barrel-aged sour ale brewed with Cashmere hops is a satisfying swirl of bright fruit and funk. Tropical notes from the Cashmere hops are layered with a brett-driven funkiness that, when combined, deliver deep fermented fruit flavors like tepache or preserved lemons. Refreshingly tart!

16.9oz bottle purchased from the fridge for $15.99. No bottled on date and not sure when this was released.
Look: Pours a golden ale, almost copper-colored, with near clarity. Bubbles are slowly yet consistently rising up. There was a nice head that fizzled to a very thin compact white head. After pouring the sediment, this became hazy and there was more head retention.
Smell: Smells very tart - strong lemon notes - and quite funky. There's a bit of grassy and medicinal notes in there too. Some nice, soft herbal notes on the finish too.
Taste: It is quite sour and definitely funky - works well with the rest of the flavor profile. Reminds me a bit of a grisette or saison. It's very refreshing. I don't get much of the hops, probably because this was bottled a while ago. The finish is dry and mineral-laden, definitely reminds me a lot of preserved lemons as the tasting note says. There's very low bitterness, a bit of tannin from the barrel aging. It's very complex, and I think that the complexity would have been very different if it was fresher and the hops came through more. After pouring the sediment, the character became more complex and I picked up grapefruit and pithy flavors.
Feel: Very nicely carbonated. You can really tell that this is not a kettle-soured beer because it has really soft, smooth carbonation and mouthfeel.
Overall: This is my fifth Grimm beer and the second sour I have had from them. I haven't had a beer like this in a while (Jester King was probably the last one). I would say that this is on par with Jester King Saison Americaine. Both are very good. Actually, I'm not sure what style this beer should be classified as. I selected Wild Ale, but perhaps it should be Farmhouse Ale - Saison instead?
