Our version of Café Brûlot Diabolique is a blend of rich, barrel-aged imperial stout featuring Taconic whiskey and brown sugar rum barrels and steeped on orange zest, coffee, cloves, and cinnamon. Inspired by the flaming New Orleans cocktail bearing the same name.

It’s been almost 3 years since I’ve had anything from Grimm, and that last beer was also an oddly adjuncted Stout. I’ve also been getting into cocktails in the past year, but I’ve never had a Café Brûlot Diabolique so I don’t have a reference point to compare this against. Either way, it should be a fun one. Let’s get into it
Pours almost completely pitch black with a finger of creamy dark tan head that slowly fades to a thin ring and leaves minimal lacing
This is nice and bright in the nose, not too much barrel presence but that’s okay. I’m picking up on aromas of orange peel, clove, burnt sugar, acrid coffee, apple skin, toasted oak, cocoa powder, vanilla bean, light whiskey, and cinnamon
It doesn’t have quite the same pop to it in taste but it’s still good. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting toasted oak, cocoa powder, medium roast coffee, burnt caramel, funky rum, orange peel, light cinnamon, and vanilla bean. The swallow brings notes of orange peel, burnt sugar, funky rum, charred oak, clove, cacao nib, molasses, brown sugar, and acrid coffee
A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a smooth beer. Finishes mostly dry with a clean bitterness
This one is very fun and absolutely unique. I might have to try making the cocktail some time

Pours deep, dark brown. Tantalizing aroma of brown sugar, cinnamon, orange zest, coffee and hints of bourbon. Well balanced & nice intensity taste of the bourbon, coffee, orange zest, cinnamon, brown sugar with hints of light vanilla. Full bodied. Outstanding stout.

500 ml bottle into a snifter. A 2023 release, had 11/24/23.
Pours an opaque dark brown, with a short head and light foamy lacing. Aromas of orange zest, coffee, some bourbon and rum, some malt, some brown sugar and cloves, light cinnamon. Flavors of bourbon, coffee, orange zest, malt, brown sugar, some rum, some cinnamon and cloves, light vanilla and oak. Smooth, a very good full body, appropriately carbonated.
It’s certainly different, a great change of pace stout. The coffee, orange zest and cinnamon all show well. The brown sugar from the rum barrels also comes through nicely. Very enjoyable.

Smell gives off chocolate-orange aroma with a teasing hint of spice. Body opens with a wave of fudgy, classic stout body backed by a bright orange body with prickly cinnamon spice. Very satisfying and solid.
