The hottest new hop to arrive from hop breeders over the past couple of years is Nectaron, grown in New Zealand. It isn’t yet planted in high volume, so it is still quite rare and expensive. We’re still getting to know what this hop can do, so brewing a single-hop beer with it is a great way for us to understand more deeply what this amazing new varietal brings to the table. NOTHING BUT NECTARON delivers on the hype. We get a huge, enticing hop aroma with unique notes of ginger and sweet peach. Interacting with our own special “Grimm 60” house yeast, it this novel varietal created a beautifully milky and opaque haze. On the palate it is incredibly juicy, dripping with pineapple, peach and tangerine with complex spice.

Pours a hazy light orange with soft head and pretty lacing.

Smell is fruity and juicy with notes of peach, citrus and nectarine.

Taste is fruity and juicy with a moderate bitterness. Notes of peach, grapefruit, lemon, nectarine and some gummy candy.

Mouthfeel is medium, soft and well carbonated.

Overall, a very drinkable DIPA, as usual from Grimm.

A decent Grimm IPA but nothing special. Was hoping for more of the pineapple that is supposed to come from Nectaron.

Canned two months ago, so not the freshest, but the store keeps the beer in the fridge.

L - hazy even for grimm, typical two-finger head fades to lacing, straw yellow

S - marmalade/mango, tiny hint of dank, pleasant but a little subdued

T - fleshy fruit up front (peach, mango), maybe vanilla, more sweet than bitter, the bitter notes on the finish (grapefruit rind, pine) have a spiciness that's to describe, like clove or black pepper sort of

F - medium minus carb, medium plus viscosity, perfect

O - my initial impression of nectaron is heavy on orange/mango/peach (amarillo, idaho 7, mosaic, el dorado), lower on bright notes like lemon (sorachi ace) or passionfruit (mosaic), not very floral (like centennial) or piney (like simcoe) or dank (like ctz or many others) or green/grape (like nelson or galaxy), maybe most similar to amarillo but I think I like this one better, amarillo 2.0

Can from Fairway on the UWS. Pours a hazy pale yellow with flash of creamy white head, decent lacing; smell is peppery and dank, ripe mango flesh, peach/nectarine flesh, tropical fruit juice, hints of citrus zest; taste follows with spicy dank/green/vegetal, mango and peach flesh, citrus pith, hints of peach candy and ginger candy; feel is medium bodied, dry, mild hop bite. My first taste of nectaron and it’s giving green dank stone fruit goodness.
