Not very good, the formaldehyde-like character is off-putting, as is the way-too-hot alcohol obviousness, both of which overshadow most other elements of this beer.

Pours a dark tan to very light brown foam that fades in average time to a thin ring around the perimeter of the glass. Lacing is present, but modest, a few dots cling to some sides of the glass. Body is a dark amber brown color, with light bringing out orange/amber hues (SRM 28-30). Transparent.

Aroma of spicy alcohol and warming booziness, dark caramel malt character/sweetness mixed with a bit of burnt molasses, hints of slightly sour prunes and dried figs, and occasionally some baking spices (nutmeg, clove).

Flavor is a bit too aldehyde-forward (formaldehyde) combined with anise and burned molasses/acrid brown sugar for my tastes. Front: strong alcohol spiciness, dark caramel malt character/sweetness with a touch of burned molasses character, prunes and dried figs, a bit of aldehydes, anise, and higher alcohols. Mid: aldehydes, higher alcohols, fairly hot alcohol and spiciness, combined with some anise, burned molasses/acrid brown sugar mixed with some dark caramel malt sweetness/character, slightly sour prunes and dried figs, and a very subtle roasted malt character in the background. Back: spicy alcohol and alcohol flavor; dark caramel malt character/sweetness mixed with some burned molasses; and a mix of aldehydes, higher alcohols, and anise. After: dominant lingering alcohol spice and flavor, a bit of residual dark caramel malt sweetness/character together with a burned molasses character, and a bit of slightly sour dried fig ester.

Beer is medium-heavy in body with carbonation of lower intensity, resulting in a soft, mostly foamy mouthfeel (~2.2 vol CO2). Alcohol is very easily felt on the palate and throat and in the nostrils as significant burning and heat. Disappointing. Closes dry, with fairly heavy stickiness on the lips and palate.

Pours a dark brown color with beige and ruby edges and a finger of head. The nose is earthy with some essence of dark malts. The flavor has some mild roasted bitterness. Overall, this is too thin and flat for the style.

From the 16 oz. can sampled on Feb 6,2021.

Attractive dark amber-red pour under a lingering tan head. Just an attractive beer,

As for the aroma, I get dark sweet caramel malts, molasses, and an earthy hop sensation.

Medium body.

The taste is sweet and malty beyond everything else with a crackery and roasty finish. But that is the style.

Can date smudged
Pours a med to larger giant 1.5 finger tan head with great retention, fair messy lacing, semi dark chestnut ruby color

Nose nice dark malts, a bit roasted malt and little coffee and cream, bit of dark chocolate cocoa, a little earthy spice, light earthy spicy hop

Taste brings more dark roasty malt but also fair amount of spicy earthy hops, and some bitterness from the roast, med to a bit higher overall bitterness, fair roast, little coffee, not really any chocolate, actually a bit of semi sweet choc on the back end, no fruit, but soft possibly lagered, dry finish, lingering med high bitterness, roast and spicy hops lingering

Mouth is med bod, soft possibly lagered, med carb, no alcohol

Overall pretty nice, good malt, hops hit nicely for the style, soft possibly lagered, no alcohol, also no fruit and little chocolate but ok just the expression of the style, I would have liked a bit more overall malt and body, but still nice

On nitro tap at Aurora Brew Works in East Aurora, NY.

This one pours a fairly dark black and inky color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like dark fruit and plum, smoke, roasted malt, and chocolate.

This is almost just a little bit too tangy for me, with lots of dark fruit, and a slight astringent bitterness. There's a decent creaminess and a good chocolatey maltiness, but it just doesn't quite work for me.

This is creamy, and a bit thin as most nitro beers tend to be, with a decent enough drinkability.

I've liked other beers from Schilling much more than this.

Alewife and I took a road-trip yesterday up to Littleton and we stopped here for lunch... I had two 12oz pours of this, at $7.00 each.

Poured into a small snifter, it was jet black, with very fine carbo slowly meandering topside. Head was a creamy layer of beige foam, thin yet covering, with lovely lace. Had a semi-sweet nose with solid choco and coffee. Body was medium-plus, and it was silky smooth on the tongue.

Flavor had more coffee and dark choco, rich and semi-sweet. Also found some cocoa and molasses also in the malty mix. Quite tasty! Cheers!

Frothy, beige head. Rich blanket of lace on the glass. The liquid is deep dark brown where only the faintest of light passes through the glass.

Chalky sweet cocoa smell. Light milk.

Served as a nitro pour, this is a silky smooth mouthfeel. The body isn't particularly rich but the "carbonation" is very fine. The flavor mimics the smell but has less lactose sweetness to it. Think unsweetened powdered cocoa. Long Baker's chocolate like aftertaste.

Poured on draft at the brewery.

Nitro pour yields a beautiful dark brown color with a huge khaki head. The head cascades into a thick blanket, leaving plenty of cobweb lacing along the way.

The aroma is roasted and malty with hints of chocolate, brown sugar, and subtle coffee.

The flavor is chocolatey with dark roast malt and some mild toffee. Finishes slightly bitter and hoppy.

The feel is creamy and smooth and highly drinkable.

Overall, a good Baltic porter that's full of chocolate flavor and slightly roasted for balance.

Had on nitro tap. Pours opaque dark brown in color with huge one inch head. Taste is roasted malt, milk chocolate and bitter rye. Creamy, medium bodied with moderate carbonation and roasty. Makes for an excellent intro to the brewery. Love the body on this one.

Poured on nitro. Pours black with thick 1-2 fingers of tan head. Not much on the nose but flavor is medium roasty malts with faint hints of bakers chocolate. Finish lingers with some bitter roast. Feel is creamy as expected on nitro. ABV seems to vary with this beer it's 9% here on BA, listed at 8.2% on their website and 7.4% currently at the brewery. No hints of booze.

A-Deep blackness with cascading quality when presented. Like night and a preamble blizzard. Beautiful foaming qualities on the nitro pour.

S- Served on nitro, so this quality is more or less N/A. Slight nose is creamy and rich.

T- Oh, boy. Super long tootsie roll and mahoghany qualities that go on, and on, and on…Serious heft in the belly of the beer, and despite being 9%, superb balance. Almost no alcohol warming.

M- Creamy, lovely, rich. Wanna rub it all over.

Best Baltic Porter I have EVER had. That's all, folks.
