Notes:
Means “to shine or glow” in German. Deep golden in color with a white frothy head, this lightly smoked lager expresses aromas of cherrywood and light mesquite with a gently spicy and floral hop character. The body is malty and full, and the finish is dry.

16oz undated can.
Pours clear gold with an inch of white fluff. Moderate retention and minimal lacing. Toasted dough with faint caramel in the nose. Medium bodied with a crisp mouthfeel. Bready malt with faint honey and a light touch of smoke on the palate. Finishes a bit malty with a drying bitterness.

Nice and clear with a tall white head. Aroma and taste are a little muted when cold, with a bit of general malt and fruit scent to go with a bitter taste that seems equally herbal hop and light smoke. Warmth allows the smoke to bloom a little in the nose, but it gains more traction in the taste. As the flavor becomes more apparent, there is a slight increase in a "rubbery" note in the feel (hard to explain, I think it might be a draw from the mesquite smoke). Little bit of apple in a lightly toasted bread brings sweetness in front. The smoke and a more reedy grass-like bitterness counter this nicely.
This seems to be a beer with a solid base, upon which subtle, but increasing, smokiness adds some depth to enjoy.

From pint can marked 011822 02005 1534
Poured into my pilsen glass this lager is a clear golden amber with a darker shade than I am used to for the style. Low creamy off white head. Streams of carbonation rise. Head dissipates to a skim quickly but leaves a small amount of fine lace.
Scent is fresh doughy bread, light fruit and floral hops. Apple, pear and a possible hint of lemon. Smoke is barely perceptible in the nose; what is detected has a slightly meaty note as well as a hint of woodsmoke. You have to be looking for it to notice it.
Taste is fresh doughy bread, fruit (apple and pear) and a crisp floral herbal hop note. Ahh there's the smoke. It is very subtle but shows up more than it did in the nose. The fruit and dough malts have a sweetness (fructose, honey, sugar) which carries into the finish but the clean mildly bitter hops balance it. Apple stands out to me. Crackery notes. Lemon. Mild herbal woody aftertaste (cherry wood) and a slight meaty (ham) flavor. Finish trades off between classic German hop bitterness, sweetness, and meaty woody smokiness.
Mouth is light crisp and quenching. Carbonation is fine and unobtrusive.
Drinkability is fairly high. I'd love another.
Admittedly I have a fondness for both rauchbiers and helles lagers so it's no surprise this is right up my alley. As smoked beers go this is beautifully subtle. The interplay between sweet, bitter and smoky and the length of the finish make this a slightly bolder beer than is typical for the style but it still retains a reasonably crisp quaffable appeal and the overall effect is quite pleasing. Another delightful Schilling lager.

Can from the Packie,
Deep gold on color with a frothy white head that persists.
Bready crackery maltiness with moderate smoke and light floral hops to counter. Pretty nice.

Crystal clear and lively body, on the darker side for a Helles, closer to a coppery gold than the pale gold/straw yellow more typical of the style. Very good head production, but retention is lacking, quickly fading to little more than a thin rim at the edge of the glass.
Not particularly smoky on the nose, with more traditional Helles notes leading the way: slightly sweet, honeyed wheat (tough to beat?), with a pleasantly grassy and floral hop bite. The smokiness has more of a woody, campfire note than anything particularly meaty.
Everything comes together very well on the nose, with exceptional balance. Up front, the sweeter malt leads the way, with notes of white bread, sugar, and honey, but it's balanced by a smooth, light hoppy bitterness, and a gentle hint of smoke. The smoke builds by mid-sip, mostly woody, but with a touch of salted ham to it. Finishes warm.
On the fuller side for a Helles, but drinks easily and cleanly.

Pint can poured into a tall , narrow stemmed Schilling flute glass
Brewers notes: Deep golden in color with a white frothy head, this lightly smoked lager expresses aromas of cherrywood and light mesquite with a gently spicy and floral hop character. The body is malty and full, and the finish is dry.
Golden clear liquid with several micro carbonation streams, three finger fluffy off white foam cap , thick puffy clouds, sticky lacings , settles to a puffy island
Aroma is bready, biscuity, gentle smokiness
taste is interesting , light like a helles but with a smokiness on the finish . Not as smoky as a full up Rauchbier. Gentle hop spiciness
Clean, light, smoky , low sudsing,
Really interesting, would be good with seafood, fresh fish, smoked oysters, shrimp, smoked fish
Good beer

Somewhat murky golden with a big white head and lacing. Campfire smoke, wet woodchips, honey dipped grains, biscuit and floral hops. This is exactly what you want in a smoked helles in the taste: honey, bread, biscuit dough, grains, finish by herbal and floral hops with campfire smoke and dry earth. Feel is bready and smoky with a lingering sweetness underneath it all. Would be perfect on a cool spring night

Pours a crystal clear dark gold, light 1" head that fades quickly. Nose is sweet malt, grass and hay, light lemon, earthy hop; not getting much smoke at all, but still smells like a very inviting helles. Taste leads with moderate sweetness before lots of rich dough peak through followed by a ton of grain on the finish. Smoke pops through just a touch on the finish, but may not have noticed if I wasn't looking for it. Mouthfeel is super crisp. Really enjoyed this one.

From a 16 oz. can stamped 02-11-21. Sampled March 12, 2021.
The appearance is a lovely looking golden color with a modest, fading head.,
Lovely smokiness greets the nose on first whiff with a light toasted malt and floral hop presence.
Light-medium mouthfeel.
The taste is sweet then smoky. And it ends clean. A nice smoked lager. You can feel the bonfire.
