Named after a small town in Belgium's Hoegaarden region, Hoksem is marked by gentle citrus peel and clove spice qualities on the nose, with notes of lemongrass, orange and light spice defining the palate. Brewed with unmalted wheat, orange peel and coriander, Hoksem pours straw yellow with a fluffy white head. Soft, refreshing and wheat-forward, Hoksem is crafted for early summer days on the river.

Opaque cloudy yellow appearance with a plump eggshell white head atop it all with plenty of sporadic lacing. Aromas of wheat with lemon, peel, flowers, mild toasted grain. Taste adds a touch of dry earth and the lemon is now estery. Feel is medium bodied, very full and decently crisp. Good new world attempt at the style, would be best in early spring

From a 16 oz. can dated 090122. Sampled November 25, 2022.
The appearance is a cloudy looking orange-yellow color underneath a big white foamy head that fades to a ring.
Eloquent aromas of Belgian grains, Belgian yeast, clove, coriander, lemon zest, and apple.
Medium mouthfeel. Soft texture.
The taste is about what one should expect in this style with sweet grainy and herbal characters. The ending is semi-dry. Clean finish.

Can. Cloudy pale beige straw with lasting dense silent head and lotsa lace. subtle and complex coriander and wheaty tangy bready doughy aroma. Medium sweetness wheaty with some wheaty tangy estery fruitiness and a super compact spicy finish. Medium light body and perfect balance of softness and carbo. I rate per style and this is a near perfect witbier.

A: The beer is very hazy yellow in color and has some hints of pale whitish hues. It poured with a half finger high white head that died down and left a thin collar around the edge and lots of lacing on the surface and down the sides of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of clove and lemongrass are present in the nose along with notes of wheat and hints of orange peel.
T: The taste follows the smell, except that the flavors of wheat are a bit stronger.
M: It feels a bit shy of being medium-bodied and slightly "chewy" on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I would consider this to be a "rustic" witbier given its heavier and chewy mouthfeel compared to other beers in the style.

Canned 2021/10/01
Pours a nice 1.5 finger frothy bubbly head with moderate retention, fair whispy lacing, a little rocky head, hazy golden blond color
Nose creamy doughy wheat, cake batter with vanilla spice, citrus orange and a little lemon zest with mild pome fruit and fair bubblegum esters, light potpourri spices like coriander, hint peppery, touch of honey cake
Taste brings more of everything, cake batter up front with creamy doughy wheat, rich vanilla icing and vanilla ice cream, light potpourri spices with coriander again, fair fruity esters starting with citrus, orange and a little lemon again, fair bubblegum, white sangria, a bit of bitterness from mild spicy hops and citrus zest, light honey cake and rich bread, very dry finish, more fruity and bubblegum esters, a bit more spicy bitterness
mouth is med to lighter bod, high prickly carb, a bit creamy
Overall not bad, general good witbier but feels like some of the characters were accentuated more than they should be, and vice versa, but I'm nitpicking for a general solid beer
