An unfiltered version of our Czech Pale Lager, brewed with whole leaf Czech Saaz hops and a special landrace barley variety from Sugar Creek Malthouse in Indiana. Lightly floral and grassy while displaying a clean malt character and smooth bitterness. Crisp, clean, and very sessionable.

Appearance: Pours a very lightly hazed, pale yellow body with a medium-sized, white head.
Smell: Grainy, a little husky with a plop of rustic dough. The teensiest hint of honeywater, also a bit of floral lemon.
Taste: A pale maltiness housing touches of grainy dough and sturdy straw stalks. Minimal sweetness at best. Lightly floral with some faint earthy woodsy hints, though a nice little pop of bright lemon. Gently bitter, then it turns back to the initial husky element.
Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation.
Overall: Fairly solid.

This one pours a very clear golden yellow color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This smells rustic and bready, with bitter and herbal hops, and a cleanly malty and bready aroma.
This is extremely drinkable – there’s both nothing to it, and everything to it. It’s got a clean, herbal, spicy, and delicious bitterness to it, with a soft bready, doughy, and rustic sort of malt character. It’s all very subtle, but very complex and well done.
This is lighter bodied, clean, crisp, and super drinkable.
It’s hard not to love stuff like this.

From a three-week-old can, pours a very clear light gold. Big white head of foam. Smell features classic lager along with herbal hops. Very slightly dank. Light body, nice doughy finish. Not sure what the "unfiltered" refers to since the beer is crystal clear, but very flavorful and enjoyable.

Not impressed. "Nefiltrovany" means "unfiltered" - this Lena is very clear, whether on tap at the brewery or poured from a can.
It also is too subtle. Maybe even plain. Maly 8° has more character than this Lena 10°.
I beer-fasted for a whole day and didn't eat any food since breakfast for my second tasting of this lager, that's how much I wanted to like it. It would be a mistake to have a different beer or any food first. That stuff will adversely impact your taste buds.
So no, still no go. I am not sure Tinkerbell would detect that fleeting hint of apparently "whole leaf Czech Saaz hops" proudly referenced in the label. It's just not there. The Schilling boys must have accidentally filtered out the hops and the flavor.
Oh well.

Regular Lena is middle of the pack of my Schilling tastes...this special version blows it away by nearly every measure. Deliciously balanced (tho I could have taken even more hop assertiveness haha), and super smooth. The malt is superb. I only have 4 to enjoy, so working my way through them slowly on a clean palate for each. What a treat!
