This one pours a dark golden brown color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
This smells like caramel, dark fruit, chocolate, and bourbon.
Schilling is a very capable lager brewery, so I wasn’t quite sure how well they’d do with something like this. Luckily for me, it’s a very solid barleywine, with a light but pleasant barrel character, with some spice and oak, and a touch of bourbon, with some dark fruitiness that may be coming from the port. There’s lots of caramel and chocolate, too.
This is medium bodied, slightly creamy, and not very boozy, with a nice drinkability.
This isn’t a blockbuster entry in the barrel aged barleywine world, but it’s solid and well worth drinking.

500 ml bottle
Pours a cloudy dark brown, minimal head. Rich malty aroma of caramel, plum, raisin, little boozy. Similar taste, good depth of flavor, and not too sweet. Medium bodied.

What a fantastic ale this is! Bought 4 bottles from the brewery and am savouring the third one.
It is a rich and robust brew. Tall, dark and handsome. Probably best enjoyed on a cold autumn day, but a cool summer evening will have to do.
I smell and taste figs, honey and fall harvest. There is an extremely light touch of either peach or kiwi, ripe and slightly tart. Decadent.
Worthy. Time to plan another trip to Schilling.
