Lower in alcohol than traditional German Bockbiers, this American version is easy drinking. Amber-colored with malt-forward notes of brown bread, light caramel, and a hint of corn sweetness, it was brewed with a blend of 2-row and 6-row barley, Munich malt, and Boone County Corn–all from Indiana's Sugar Creek Malt Co.

Picked up a 16 oz can from the Appalachian Vintner in Asheville 6-20-25 for $2.38.No canning date but per other Advocates it was 4-15-25; consumed 7-28-25. Cold stored since purchase.

Beer poured ruby-brown with a very nice white head that is leaving lacing behind.

Nose is giving me light notes of baked wheat bread.

Taste is giving me notes of toasted pumpernickel that is hopped sufficiently enough to balance the malt sweetness but leaves a light herbal bitterness on the back end.

Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and smooth.

Overall, digging this bock. Love the pumpernickel bread theme!

Canned 2025/04/15
Pours an off-white frothy 1 finger head with good retention, soapy lacing, hazy copper to auburn color

Nose toasted biscuity sweet malts, a bit of caramel and toffee, sweet bread crust, sweet aroma and a bit of candy apple, maple

Taste is also a bit on the sweet side, a little caramel toffee, more candy apple, touch of sweet fig dipped in syrup, some sweet bread crust, toasted biscuity notes, a touch of hop bitterness, mild sweet finish

Mouth is med bod, a hint syrupy, med carb

Overall not bad, not as complex as I expected for Schilling, a bit on the sweet side as well, but not bad

Poured from a 16 oz can dated 04/15/25 into the tulip glass
A - Pours a deep ruby/copper color. Excellent carbonation forms a lasting offwhite tower of froth.
Lacing is like tree rings
S - Slightly smokey,Malt forward with notes of caramel, and brown toast. A bit of noble hop in there as well.
T - Earnot to dry. thy, multigrain, a bit of burnt toast, hint of smoke, and old nutmeg. quite interesting.
M - Smooth a silk on the palate, not sweet, with a nice lingering earthy calling card
O - A very good offering, with a course earthy thread in each aspect. One I will purchase again
