this is a great beer, a super funky session type saison with spelt in the grain bill and grapefruit in it. the menu here says locally foraged grapefruits, which i wonder, did they steal these from yards or something? do they grow wild in this part of the state? im curious as can be about that little bit, but i absolutely love the beer. its hazy and not super bubbly or heady from the tap, but has an awesome aroma of funky yeast, earthy pale malts, and fresh zested grapefruit with some pucker and twang. i find it to be juicy in the taste and feel, almost pulpy, lots of fruitiness here, but not so much that it covers up the wheat and spelt in the mash, which are earthy, lightly spice, fluffy feeling, and very much natural and organic in their vibe. i just love what spelt adds in a beer like this. some sweetness and some acid from the grapefruit, and a bretty sort of rustic farmy funk to this, a white wine flash, and some hay or straw, floral and late summery, but then zesty and bitter too from the grapefruit, an awesome mix of flavors and textures! carbonated better than it looks like it would be, and very drinkable and refreshing, even with all this body here. a delightful and well made beer, creative and smart, probably my favorite of the handful of beers we had in here!
