We love Nelson hops. They exhibit unique juicy white wine flavors unlike any other hop. There’s really no other hop quite like ’em. Here’s a double IPA that is crushable in spite of its 8.4% ABV and loaded with Nelson hops (as well as smaller amounts of Citra and Simcoe). Notes of citrus, white wine, and gooseberries.

Can poured into a Mountain Rambler Brewery pint glass
A: Pours hazy peachy golden amber with a frothy buttermilk white head that settles to a firm layer and laces nicely.
S: Solid hit of classic Nelson fruitiness, ripe tropical and stone fruit, some citrus, pine, a touch grassy, biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.
T: Nelson goodness comes right out, big white grape and gooseberry, backed with floral notes, a little pine, citrus, tangerine, lime, lemon, and grapefruit, more tropical and stone fruit, pineapple, mango, apricot, peach, passion fruit, and a faint hint of guava, soft dank herbal notes, a touch grassy, biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.
M: Just a touch on the fuller side of medium body, moderate carbonation, soft on the palate.
O: This batch isn't quite as dank as the name implies, but overall it's a damn good Nelson forward hazy DIPA.

10/31/22 Batch! This batch is a hazy DIPA...Sweet orange citrus, tropical hoppy, white wine grape, and citrus-dank nose on this one! Taste follows with a tasty and soft, orange-grapefruit citrus, slightly malty, and hoppy bitter finish...that bitter finish lingers more and more as it warms. This is delicious!

Thanks, Chad!
Was grateful for pulling in this, along with 16 others, from Chad and Bill on a recent work trip to Reno, Nev. Cellarmaker consistently puts out some of the best IPAs and I expected this to be in the mix for another good one. Untappd description read, “We love Nelson hops. What's a gooseberry?” This one sounded good.
Poured a gold-to-amber clear color with 1-to-2 fingers of off-white frothy head. Lots of bubble streams coming up right through the middle of the glass. Outstanding uneven foamy lacing. Excellent retention. (Sight - 4.25)
Smelled dank resin, pine, Nelson, white wine, spicy Simcoe, grapefruit, passion fruit and black pepper. From the can added some Citra and still that spicy Simcoe and Nelson. (Smell - 4.50)
Tasted buttery garlic, onion, dank resin, pine, Nelson, spicy Simcoe, black pepper, passion fruit, papaya and white wine. (Taste - 4.25)
Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Long, dry, dank finish. (Feel - 4.50)
This was just an awesome DIPA. Would love to try it again. (Overall - 4.50)
