Twelve ounce bottle gathered from local bottle store. At first pour, determined there may have been a Loss of carbonation in comparison with past reviewed observations. Notes of chocolate and toasted grain is present, but a bit one dimensional without the carbonation or evidence of the claimed ibus. A bit disappointing even with the claim of 11.0 percent. If it was it may have dissipated. Mouth feel was as expected for a milk stout - creamy and caffeinated. Wishing I could find a good specimen to review.

L) Pours a dark oily brown with a creamy khaki head. Swirls silkily and has decent retention. Surprisingly little lacing though.

S) The nose has roasty, toasty coffee and toffee. There are hints of belgian candy and some dark fruit as well. Surprisingly, hoppiness can be detected through these notes, a light, floral, citrus component can be detected.

T) Most everything in the nose is present in the flavor profile. The hoppiness is actually a bit more assertive than I prefer in stouts, but it still works as a lovely counterbalance. The coffee is present, but I wish it was more forward. The booze is perfectly hidden.

F) The beer feels lovely. Medium carbonation, a silky mouth feel, and a warming nature from the alcohol content. An absolute pleasure to sip.

O) This is a nice Imp Stout. I have preferential critiques, but it is a nice brew. I hope they make it again.

L: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a dark brown / black color and an opaque consistency. There was an absolutely massive, tan-colored, creamy, extremely long-lasting head. Good lacing.

S: A severely subdued aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, lactose, coffee, and wood.

T: Tasted of a moderate amount of dark chocolate (could have used more), a lot of lactose, a woody quality, some roasted malt, light coffee notes, and mild hops in the finish. Definitely an unfocused flavor. It had sort of a sharp, chemical quality to it. The whole flavor is kind of off-putting.

F: A solid amount carbonation with a dry, clean finish. Medium-bodied.

O: This is an uneven beer for the most part. It has some good attributes, but doesn't quite succeed.

Deep dark color with coffee, chocolate and malt in the nose. Taste is a bit sweet (Milk stout) yet the coffee, malts and chocolate come together pretty decently. Slick mouth feel and a light bitter chocolate at the end

22 oz bottle poured in a stemmed, tulip style glass. I haven't had a ton of beers from this local brewery, but I'm impressed, easily the best one I've had from them. Great bitter chocolate and espresso flavors. Easy to drink at the abv.

I noticed that this is listed as retired on BA. I don't see any bottle date on the bottle or the label. BA doesn't have an ABV listed but the label indicates "ALC. BY VOL. 11% HOP LEVELS 65.5 IBU NET CONTENTS 22 FLUID OZ."

Appearance: It has a black body and a medium-sized light khaki head with a bit of a creamy and bubbly texture. Decent retention but not much lacing. It has a very good appearance.

Aroma: I get some coffee and a spicy, slightly twiggy or woody tea-like scent.

Taste: It has a decently strong bitter charcoal flavor with somewhat of a pine flavor and a treacle flavor in the finish. The coffee flavor is a bit more pronounced in the aftertaste and it has a bit of a coffee berry flavor which is interesting. It is a bit like there is a slight cherry finish to the beer and a light tartness. It's an interesting beer with a bit more char than sweetness for a breakfast stout.

Mouthfeel: It does a great job of hiding the alcohol. The light bitterness goes a long way in defining the beer and keeping it interesting enough to want to keep drinking. The same goes for the light tartness in the aftertaste which isn't really present while drinking the beer at first.

Overall: It's a pretty good beer. I wouldn't say it blew me away or anything but it was enjoyable. I wouldn't really recommend going out of your way to buy it but if you see it for sale on a shelf and you enjoy stouts, then sure, buy it.

Poured a black body with coffee and roasted malt aroma. The oat aspect comes in as there is a smooth, woodiness to the beer and the beer balances dark chocolate flavors with a roasted coffee edge. Good balance and simple with hidden higher (not exactly known to me) ABV. Not the most tasty or complex stout but it hit the spot.
