Brewed for the 2015 Portland Craft Brewers Conference

Collaboration between: Baerlic Brewing, Base Camp Brewing, Burnside Brewing, Ecliptic Brewing, Gigantic Brewing, Lompoc Brewing, Old Town Brewing, Widmer Brothers Brewing.

This beer was brewed as a Symposium Beer for the Craft Brewers Conference. It is brewed in honor of the old Blitz Weinhard Brewery. It is brewed in the American Pilsner style with Corn Grits. The beer has a nice sweet malt character and crisp hop flavor and aroma from being dry hopped with Cascade Hops.

On tap at the brewery in north Portland. Rather rich and malty. Pilsener is not what I'd think on first sip. Color is clear amber with an ample foam. Quite spritzy on the tongue.

This tastes like a really good malt liquor with a kiss of hops. If only it was 8% ! Grainy with a touch of fruit. Kind of a sweet Wheat Chex taste but with some bitter hops at the finish. Interesting and wacky. Lots of flavor and a puzzle.

Pours clear golden.. White head rises and dies in about 15 seconds... No lacing or retention... Nose shows exactly what I was expecting... Clean pale malt and some corny notes.. Perhaps some sulfur, but I could be imagining things... Flavor has the same pale malt and light cooked corn with a hit of citrus hops.. pretty distinctive cascade I would guess.

Okay for sure.. I definitely get the homage reference but for a modern palate (especially a craft beer drinker or especially a geek palate) this is really not that good.. That said, I appreciate history and the effort put into this one.... In my opinion it adds to the intrigue.

They should have bumped the ABV up a percent or so and called this a PNW Malt Licka... The PDX geeks would have stumbled over each other to find it.... :-p
