A Gravastar, meaning "gravitational vacuum star", is an object hypothesized as an alternative to the black hole theory, as deep and dark as this original oatmeal stout. A smooth base of Maris Otter Malt, followed by roast malts, wheat and oats, complements the layers of peanut butter and chocolate. Brewed especially for BeerAdvocate's Extreme Beer Box: BIG STOUTS, this beer is a real treat that will pull you in.

Appearance: Pours espresso colored with a one finger ecru head that fades to a ringlet and archipelago; webby lacing

Smell: Dark chocolate, oats and a hint of peanut butter; nothing particularly prominent

Taste: Chocolate powder forward with just a touch of peanut butter; the finish tastes almost plastic

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Overall: Nothing particularly exciting here; somehow I missed tasting this when the Extreme box arrived but I didn't miss much

16oz can from the Extreme Stout Box poured into a snifter shows an opaque dark cola colored body floating a 1"+ proud head of tight brown bubbles that eventually falls to an edge-hugging ring with random spotted lacing and slight legs.

Deep, dark, bitter roast malt aroma is coffee and toast forward, almost charred...and devoid of peanut butter.

Flavors match. Bitterness is virtually all coffee, with burnt toast and...there is a hint of nuttiness, at best, in the aftertaste with warmth. Solid roast malt effort but not enough peanut butter to justify the label representation.

Mouthfeel is on the thinner side of full, and lacks the creaminess of many oatmeal stouts. Slight bitter roast astringency, no booze warmth, and good carbonation.

Overall very nice, and gorgeous, but not extreme.

Looks great in the glass, nice stout black crowned with a three finger brown head that was slow to dissipate.
The aroma, to my Covid affected nose, was a bit of peanut butter and charred wood. Curious.
The taste, and this may be because I left it in the cellar too long, was weak peanut flavor with a decent tasting stout but nothing extreme about it.
The feel was not reminiscent of an oatmeal stout at all, too thin. Almost watery.
OA, glad to have tried it but it wouldn’t be a repeat purchase.

A: Pours a clear opaque extremely dark chestnut brown approaching jet black in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and faint dark amber + mahogany colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall dense sudsy foamy tan head that reduces to a large patch of thin film covering approximately 85% of the surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of roasted + chocolate + oat malts with a hint of lactose-like sweetness. Light aromas of peanut butter (similar to PB powder) and a hint of charred malts as well as earthy hops.

T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of roasted + chocolate + oat malts with a hint of lactose-like sweetness along with hints of charred malts. That is followed by light flavors of peanut butter (similar to PB powder). Finally there are hints of earthy hops. Light amounts of lingering bitterness.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly creamy but slight thin/watery in the finish.

O: Drinks fairly easily but the mouthfeel is a little thin and not quite creamy enough for an oatmeal stout. Enjoyable but just a little more muted in flavor and aroma than expected.

16oz can. Date stamped on can bottom appears to be '01/02/23'.
Black colorerd body with red mahogany back lit edge. Two finger of tan head, and this disappears to some surface skiff and ring. Leaves behind a scattering of small lacing spots.
Aroma of roasted chocolate malts, coffee, and peanut butter.
Taste is sweet roasted oats, milk chocolate, vanilla, and peanut butter. The sweetness lingers in the aftertaste.
Thinner mouth feel. Tingling on the tongue. Okay carbonation.
Drinks similar to a flat cola. Peanut butter flavor seems natural and is not burnt.

L: Pours dark like coffee with a nice mocha creamy head
A: Strong aroma of coffee and malt but no peanut butter
T: taste of malt and coffee but no peanut butter
F: Is smooth but thin. A very easy drinking beer
O: Not much to this beer besides being smooth and easy to drink it misses on many of the qualities I look for in a stout. Confirms my theory that stouts below 10% ABV are not very good.

It's a good enough flavor and the smell has hints of vanilla and peanut butter. It's got good roastiness to it. It's a bit thin though.

Gravastar pours black with a larger, long-lasting, white head. The aroma has notes of oats, peanut butter, and smoke. The flavor is a little lighter, oats, and peanut butter, with noticeable smoke flavors. Good body and feel. Overall, very solid oatmeal stout with nice smoke flavors.

L: Pretty much black. I poured aggressively and got a nice thick soapy-looking head.
S: Initially got a nice whiff of peanut butter which was pretty cool.
T: Some smoke and a tiny bit of peanut butter but in the middle I got some kind of tang. After drinking for a while I think the "tang" was some kind of acidic/sour/citrus taste. Aftertaste was a bit bitter.
F: Thinner than I'd like for an oatmeal stout. I desired more body.
O: The initial peanut butter smell and taste was nice but the body was thin and the citrusy/acidic taste and bitter aftertaste killed the peanut butter.

The peanut butter is very subdued. I’m getting a little of it in the aroma but the taste is dominated by roasted malts. As far as oatmeal stouts go, this is a pretty good one. It has a decent body, not too thick with a slight creamy quality from the oats. I’m gonna let this warm up a bit, but overall I’d say this warrants a solid B on the grading scale. Would certainly drink it again, but not something I’d seek out.

it's friday! settling down after an easy day at work, although it was easy i'm ready for the weekend, so what a perfect way to relax and try a new beer. I just had a peanut butter stout recently so this is my second in a week. brown in color with a light brown / khaki fluffy head, foamy and frothy settling down after about one minute. not really a peanut butter smell, i'm getting it but it's faint. instead it's a bit acidic, and a bit like roasted coffee. the taste is all black coffee. there's very little peanut butter in there. it's bitter and leathery, and no particular flavors stick out, but i really expected more peanut. this is no match for great notion's peanut brother. now THAT is a peanut butter stout. this is, well, a bit shy on flavor. mouthfeel is medium. not particularly thrilled with this, and hey it's only 7% too. i like my beers high-powered, this just doesn't cut it for me.

Pours deep brown with a very thick tan head. Aroma is mild chocolaty. Taste follows with the addition of powdered peanut butter flavor. feel is okay, but on the thin side. Overall it's a decent stout but nothing spectacular.
