Bummed to find this retired. Stopped by the brewery a couple years ago. Found a bomber at Total Wine recently knowing it was well worth it.
Lacing and "crema" persist thru my slow sipping. The bouquet is a foretaste of what follows. Reminds me a bit of a barley wine with more caramel and fig and dried fruit flavors. The feel is rich. Allow it to open up and warm for the full effect. The alcohol is harsh if you don't. If ever in the area, the DB tap room is a pleasure to visit, great product, quality people.

I enjoyed a bomber of Give Em Hell last night while watching the Cubs beat the Cardinals. It was really very good and easy to drink for such a big beer. I would compare it favorably to GL's Nosferatu, which I had the night before.

Pours an over-carbed orange with 4 fingers of tan head. Crazy lacing & head retention
S: Breadyness, leafy hops.
T: Huge cakeyness, herbal & woody hops up front. Caramel, cakeyness, woody & herbal hops with a touch of pine as this warms. Finishes dry, cakey, with a little bit of pear, woody hops & figs, a little boozey
MF: Fairly chewy, dry, slight carbonation, warming, good balance
Good drinkability, but plenty hefty. An Imp red that really leaves a mark, much like Patton's 3rd Army! Nice fruity twist at the end!

This is an Imperial Red Ale from Double Barley Brewing out of Smithfield, a small town in North Carolina known more for its barbeque than its beer.
It pours a beautiful deep ruby with nice lacing and a tan/white head. Reminds me at first sip of Great Lakes Nosferatu. Lots of rich malt with enough hops to keep it from being too sweet. Slightly sweet malt aftertaste. Wish I'd bought more than one 22 oz. bottle. Oh well, next time.

Pours into an imperial nonic a deep rich amber with a full two finger khaki colored head atop. The aromas are very muted wich is surprising to me...in a not so good way, some caramel and mild earth mixed with faint leafiness. The mouthfeel like the looks is superb, full and lush as well as going down smooth and easy.Malty upfront with caramel and brown sugar notes with a decent pine resin and leafy finish, not a big citric hop smash like a left coast "big" amber. It's a good beer,it has it's minuses but overall a solid "big red".
