This Porter is very dark brown with dark auburn highlights that sparkle within a Pretentious Beer Glass Company Dimpled Mug. A thin, one-half inch, creamy chestnut head leaves slight lacing.
Dark pumpernickel bread emanates forth, quickly followed by subtle carraway. Mocha is initially strong, but unfortunately yields to soapiness. Throughout, there is a nice dark toasted to medium roasted malt.
The flavor is initially light roasted malt, but progresses through light chocolate to black coffee. The dark pumpernickel bread with carraway lingers throughout the middle, while the finish is light with a lingering roasted malt.
The body is medium to light with a watery/silky texture. This beer is crisp with moderate carbonation and alcohol as expected.
As a Porter, it lends itself to daydreaming. I can imagine whiling away an afternoon watching the lake off in the distance.
Abandon Brewing is well worth a trip but the beer is just as enjoyable back home on a bitter cold, sunny afternoon.

Growler from the brewery
Very dark brown but not quite black, thick tan head, pretty good head retention. Aroma of milk chocolate, a touch of anise, and mild roast. Similar flavor, moderate sweetness. Medium bodied, smooth.
