Really nice hoppy IPA with tropical fruit notes. Was relatively impressed and wish this one was available locally as ive not tasted anything (yet) that has quite the tropical fruit notes this one has. Just has a different flavor than many of your standard IPA's. Had this at the Brewery while vacationing in Maine..if I could get this in PA where I am id probably have it as a "standard" regular to my go to lineups of IPA's.

A: slight haze; deep gold in color; 1 finger white head that receded to a wispy cap; very nice lacing;

S: earthy pine for a moment, then tropical fruit;

T: mild tropical fruit for a moment, tart tropical fruit in the middle, a bit of floral toward the finish, then more tart tropical fruit; mild bitterness at the end;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; lightly dry finish that increases to moderate if you give it time;

O: the tartness in the flavor was interesting and different;

Review from BA Mag Issue #117 ( Oct 2016 )

Fruity, Dank, Bitter, Interesting
Hidden Cove doesn’t go with your usual mix of hops for an IPA; Patroon includes Hallertau Blanc, Centennial, and Summit. Honeydew rind, orange pith, pineapple skin, and green tea come across in the nose and on the palate from those three varieties. And while there’s more than enough bitterness to go around, that hop flavor is what really shines here. Some maltiness does come through though, and a kiss of alcohol is noticeable. In the massive pool of IPAs available these days, this one easily advances past the middle of the pack. [Jason]

From a 12oz can. My luck is usually bad when grabbing something I've never heard of off the shelf. Well, my luck may be changing! A tasty, slightly more hoppy than malty IPA. Melon, orange and grapefruit shine in this hidden gem.

Poured from a 12 oz can into a waisted glass. Nice hazy amber gold color with moderate carbonation. Head is finger high with light lacing. Fruity bouquet - melon sticks out for me but also citrus and pine. The aroma becomes less subtle as the beer warms. Solid hop-forward, fruity, slightly-sweet flavor that finishes with a moderate bitter buzz.

I feel the hop profile is well crafted, but to be clear this is not a hop-heavy beer, not very malty either. As others have mentioned this feels almost a pale ale but I think it has enough hop boldness to shake that rap. It is a slightly odd choice for a flagship IPA but they should take some pride in having made a delightful brew.

I bought a six pack of this right after having gotten a taste of it as a guest tap at Earth Eagle in nearby Portsmouth, NH. I was lured in by the fruity hop aroma and the faintly sweet body. I am happy with my choice.

Draft, at the brewery taproom. Golden, cloudy. Citrusy, fruity aroma as advertised. Flavor seemed light to me, both on hoppiness and malt. Had I ordered a "pale ale," I might have found it more satisfying. For something billed as their "flagship IPA," I'd hoped for more character. Not a bad beer; just not my glass of ale.

A- Pours gold with a thick head that fades away. Mild lacing.

S- Didn't have a very strong aroma, but fruity and floral notes were present.

T- Fruity, melon. Floral as well. Mild bitterness and well balanced.

M- Medium body.

O- I enjoyed this beer, overall fruit and floral flavors were dominant. Not as hoppy as I'd like but a good beer nonetheless.

Dark for an IPA. Looks like apple cider.

Cant pick anything up in the aroma. Odd.

Also doesnt taste like an IPA, although its not awful. A bit of dark fruit in there.

Mouthfeel is pretty good and its saving grace.

One word: Underrated.

This is a unique, delicious IPA with many layers of flavor. Too many IPAs these days taste either like sweet malt or just bitterness. Or both.

You can actually taste something different in this brew.

This is a great IPA that every hophead should try.

A solid 88/100

Poured from a bottle into a pint.

Appearance: Straw yellow with a thick white head.

Smell: Mild hope.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth medium bodied. Taste of bitter hops and mild citrus.

Overall: Decent IPA. I think it would be good in the summer at a cook out or BBQ.

12oz bottle.

Pours gold with a chill haze and a fluffy white head. Decent retention and lacing.

Aromatics are subdued for an IPA. Light notes of cut grass, pine, and grapefruit.

Medium bodied with a crisp, slightly resinous mouthfeel.

Grapefruit and pine on the palate. Zero malt with a hint of biscuits. A bit heavy on bitterness and mildly coarse.

Finishes with a pithy bitterness and grapefruit.

Very dry with zero malt which I like, but needs more hops in the nose and palate, and a smoother bitterness.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Sampled on January 21, 2016.

It pours a cloudy looking yellow with a big and lasting white puffy head.

Citrus, pine, and floral aromas abound with a touch of peat moss over the underlying toasted malt note.

Medium body.

Quite refreshing and clean hoppy flavor with a mild top moderate bitterness to finish. Love that peat moss.

On-tap 1/14/2016 at Doherty’s Ale House in Warwick, RI, served in a tapered pint glass.

A: The beer is a light gold color, with a short white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains fruity citrus, earthy hops and caramelized malts.

T: The taste starts out with sweet flavors of caramel and citrus. Then a strong but not over-powering earthy hops bitterness comes in. The malt character hearty and brings a decent balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet and slightly bready.

M: Crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: A little tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, decent kick, decent representation of style, it’s a solid beer but there are several others in the style that I would choose first.

Big fluffy white head. Interesting aroma - definitely dryhopped - earl grey , citrus, citrus blossom, but I agree with floral. Easy drinking. First beer that I tried from Hidden Cove and I would like to try more.

Pours a huge fluffy fizzy 2+ finger head that fades at a med pace, mild messy lacing, hazy cloudy tan pale color.
Nose brings floral spicy hops, little citrus fruity note, touch earthy piney, nice floral grassy notes as well, little malty note.

Taste brings light spicy hops, nice big grassy floral hops, little pine and resin hop oils, little earthy herbal hop too, mild malty flavor but not sweet. Fair bitterness, finished dry and still fair bitterness, lingering grassy floral slight earthy piney hops.

Mouth is med bod, nice carb.

Overall not bad, different style IPA than the norm these days but still enjoyable.

A- Poured from a 12oz bottle into a large tulip glass with a hazy pale golden body. The head is very tall with a thick and creamy texture and really good retention. Wide and thick belts of lace at each stop.

S- Citrus hops deliver a distinct punch of grapefruit which for me is the signature aroma of this IPA; bright ruby-red fruits. Other hop notes join that like pine, floral and herbal tea. Malts provide a strong backing of caramelized sugar and pale barley tones which definitely add a candied-citrus touch to that grapefruit.

T- The hop profile shifts slightly and it becomes very floral forward. Flowery bouquets open up to large red grapefruits, pine, candied orange peels, bitter herbal tea, caramelized sugars, honey, crackery base malts and cereal grains. Becomes rather sweet over time.

MF- Supremely fluffy texture foams up immediately from a just-about-maximum carbonation for the style. Medium-bodied overall and an intense citrus peel bitterness lingers for a long time.

A blast of floral and grapefruit hops with a malty balance of caramel sweetness. The malts definitely do not do much to enhance the hops and the aggressive hops end up clashing with them.

Picked this up on my recent trip to VT & ME.
A - Pours a pale yellow, 1 finger white head that leaves lacing on the sides.
S - Aroma is floral with a hint of citrus.
T - Flavor is also floral with some bitterness. I did not get the fruit flavors others mentioned.
M - Light body, mouth feel is soft.
O - Different than most IPA's. A little to floral for my liking, but not a bad beer. Went down pretty easy.

Appearance: Soft gold with some bright yellows intermixed. Head is bright-white, super fluffy, and bubbly. Decent retention leaves a big fluffy clumpy cap for the duration. Sheets of lacing. Big thick notches. Moderate to high carbonation on the pour keeps up the retention.

Smell: Floral. A touch perfumey. Dried flower petal. Solid grapefruit pith and rind. A touch of ruby red grapefruit juice. Slightly herbal as well. Some earth and slight grassy notes. Malts offer up a touch of caramelized sweetness with a big push of pale malt. A touch of cooked biscuit. Some honey and candied hop. Lightly toasted with some white bread. Slightly fermented orange juice. Soapy.

Taste: Grapefruit rind and deep floral notes. Dried flower petal. Some orange juice, grapefruit zest and pith. Slight lingering bitterness. Slightly earthy with an herbal push as well. Soapy with some undercurrents of wood. A touch of sweet honey with a slight sugar candy note. Soft fruity esters. Floral notes definitely hits to perfume. Soft hop spice in the back as well. Malts offer some slight toasted notes with a mild caramelized sweetness. Leafy hop, almost the intensity of hop pellets. A soft push of cracker in the back. Some alcohol in the back. Some pine needle.

Mouthfeel: Medium almost light body. Moderate to high carbonation. Dry without being crisp. Slightly effervescent. A little slick through the middle.

Overall: Perfume with a hop chaser.

This might be one of the more floral IPAS I've encountered in a good while. A touch of sweetness to try and balance it all out, but the flower petal bitterness cuts through. Nicely balanced otherwise. A touch unrefined overall, but I think some of the kinks will work themselves out over time.

Clear, nice head, good retention.

Mostly malts on the smell.

Taste is floral honey, bitter hops, sweet malts. I could believe there's some wheat. (?)

Typical feel.

Not bad, but lacking in hop flavors other than bitter.

Taste is husk, pine, and a good dose of floral hops. The beer manages to combine these hops to create a taste that I thought was unique for an IPA with still tasting like an IPA. Really enjoyed this when I had it on tap. Worth seeking out.

Modest head but plenty of spots for lace. Dark gold color.

Piney and musty smell.

Pale malt base with an interesting swallow of pepper and pine. The taste is much better than the smell. Good body and carbonation. Moderate aftertaste.
