Burlington Beer Co. "Echo Chamber"
750 ml brown glass bottle, no apparent freshness dating, but perhaps for a beer of 10% ABV the labeling of "Limited Release 2016" is enough.
$13.04 @ Beverage Warehouse, Winooski, VT
The beautiful thing about Echo Chamber, besides the fact that it's a really good , full and rich robust porter in its own right, is that the cherries are integrated into it so nicely. I was expecting a "cherry beer" but it's not like that at all. The cherry is clear, yes, and it's completely authentic and actually has some depth to it as well (soft like strawberry, red cherry, some dark cherry, etc.), but it's the big porter base that's the main component. It's chocolatey, fudge-like, cocoa-powderish, slightly nutty, gently caramelish (golden), toffee-like, and mildly toasty. I can only imagine that the base beer is great, and I'm guessing it might also be the base for their peanut butter beer as well (it's been a long time since I had it but I immediately though of Chunky on tap at The Archives). It's not particularly bitter, nor is it acidic as some darker beers can be, but neither is it sweet - yet it's rich and malty, and the juicy-sweet-tart cherry cuts through that perfectly. Really nicely balanced! Oh wait, I see it's made with Golden Promise malt, a floor-malt not too unlike the famed Maris Otter, which explains the maltiness (although I've always preferred Golden Promise). In the mouth it's medium-full, and the carbonation is seemingly natural with a fine-bubbled, delicate bristle on the tongue that soon softens to become velvety smooth as it warms. I only wish it had better head retention and lacing because, in all honesty, I think this is the best cherry porter I've ever had. As usual I should have bought more!!! If you can get it, get it!

This is a very good robust porter. Unfortunately it is labeled as a Robust Cherry Porter. I find no presence of the sour cherry that was supposed to be there. I have to rate this based on that fact. All in all it's still a good beer. The label is misleading however.

Served on tap at the tasting room.
Pours a beautiful deep dark chocolate color with half a finger of thick caramel hued head.
Aromas are a nice bit of roasted coffee and bitter chocolate, some notes of fruit in the distance.
Flavors are really nice and balanced here. Good classic porter flavor profile with some mild notes of cherries. Would have preferred more cherries here.
Mouthfeel was quite nice and where it should be.
This is another nice beer from BBC. If next batch features more prominent sour cherries in the flavor it would really take this beer to the next level.
