This was poured into an English pint glass. The appearance was a dark brown close to black color. Rimmed with a slim white foamy head that dissipated at a nice pace. Messy lace. The aroma starts with sweet milk chocolate rolling into a subtle robust coffee bean. Sly saline quality. Dry woodiness. The flavor follows through in the sweetness of the chocolate. Some brininess/saline taste comes through but ever so slight. Sweet milk chocolate aftertaste with the same sort of finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body like a porter with a fair sessionability about. Since the briny to saline quality is so lean, it also shows in the feel so no distraction and actually feels like a porter with a gripping salty drying throatiness. Overall, different for a porter. Still, I would have again.

Can into a snifter appears dark brown in color with a khaki head.
Aroma has some minerality about it slight fruit and roasty to earthy chocolate.
Tastes roasted with slight fruitiness than a touch of savory character before almost espresso char.
Light in body with moderate carb. Unique and easy drinking. The smoked aspect is quite subdued.

good looking brew, nice on nose and good flavor profile - but definitely suffers from a watery feel. notes of roasty malts, subtle chocolate, and salty brine. an interesting beer that is worth trying but wont blow you away.

Enjoyed on site at BBC tasting room the day it was released.
Pours a dark brown that allows ample light to pass through. Half a finger of bubbly head quickly reduces to no head.
Aromas are good levels of roasted malt and some mellow brine.
Flavor is good, but light. Thin roasted malt, some notes of chocolate and wood. Some mellow brine here.
Mouthfeel was way too thin for my palate. Watery and thin. Disappointing.
Overall, this beer was ok. No off flavors at all, just very thin and watery, underwhelming.
