Imperial Maple Stout aged in Maple Bourbon Barrels.
Seances & Sacrifices Imperial Maple Stout aged in Maple Bourbon Barrels showcases the best of Vermont's maple traditions. This stout's rich maple flavor and aroma are derived from local maple sugar from Butternut Farm. The beer is then aged in freshly-emptied maple bourbon barrels, which infuse the beer with additional notes of vanilla, caramel, and oak.

My fourth beer from this brewery & hoping this one breaks the glass ceiling we call ‘excellent’. 500ML bottle.
Black. Bit of mocha head, but I can’t taste that. Nose is as advertised: sharp maple, bit of bourbon, strong side of malt.
Seances & Sacrifices kicks in a few different directions. There’s a subtle, oak-charred smokiness up front that’s not exactly smoke – I hate smoke in my beer – but some kissing cousin. Mid-palate is sweet malt that’s immediately slain by soft maple, bourbon, & moderate booziness that hits under the sternum. Oak really asserts itself on the end – very clean. Not robust for a big stout that enhances how much I want to jam into my mouth.
Falls just short of the beer promised land; just short on the promised maple & barrel. A very good brew.

Spooky season calls for spooky brews. Seances and Sacrifices is a strong and straight-forward maple BA. The maple is restrained nicely to not become overally sweet. The oak and char seems to come from young barrels as it bites quite sharp. Not enough to throw it off but would love to see this aged an additional year.

2023 edition on tap at the brewery's gastropub in Burlington.
Appearance. Essentially black body with ruby colored edges, topped by a thin head.
This maple bourbon barrel aged stout displays wondrous notes of maple, wood, vanilla, chocolate, bourbon and coffee. Slightly boozy.

2022 can. Deep black color, motor oil like. Tan head.
Lots of wet oak. Vanilla, light char. A bit of maple shows. The bourbon shines in the finish, but otherwise hard to find. Nice lingering, warming finish. Cocoa, fudge, and caramel. Molasses and licorice. The abv shows a bit with this one. It’s solid, but nothing to run home about.

Thoroughly average, dry wood tasting bourbon stout.

Pours a deep black color with a sort medium bodied tan colored head that leaves little lacing down the glass. Smells of deep roasted malt, some maple and brown sugar sweetness and a kick of bourbon at the end. Taste is excellent, maple and grown sugar upfront and then a smooth coffee and bourbon finish. It's thick, syrupy, perfect amount of carbonation, ans warming. Overall excellent.
