Stone Fence is brewed to pay homage to the dark lagers of the Czech Republic and the black lagers of Germany. By celebrating the best traits of each traditional style. Rich in malt flavors, layers of Chocolate, Fig, Toasted Walnuts, and a clean Roast character. Pours black in color with garnet ruby hues shining through when held to the light. Hopped with traditional German and Czech-grown hops, that adds spice and a herbal element to our take on this European style Dark Lager.

This is a very nicely made dark lager by a prominent Vermont brewery mostly known for their IPAs. Thankfully, they are also brewing more traditional lagers. This is one of them.
Pours a rich dark brown almost black color. The aroma is dark roast. The taste is delightfully elegant without being overdone.
Solid. Worthy.

From an undated (mix-pack box was dated 3/6/24) 12oz can into a pint glass.
Pours an opaque dark, dark brown with about one finger of tan head.
Nice aromas of black coffee and dark chocolate. Light smoky/roasty notes.
Taste follows with just a hint of breadiness. Bitterness from the coffee and dark chocolate.
Smooth drinking beer. Medium to full-bodied. Low to medium carbonation. Coffee/dark chocolate bitterness in the aftertaste.
This is really nice. A pleasure to drink. And looking like the first I've reviewed in this style.

L: Pours a dark brown color with a medium tan head that dissipates rather quick and leaves no lacing on the glass.
S: Notes of chocolate, a little bit of caramel, some walnut, a touch of brown sugar and a mineral note, aroma is a touch watery.
T: Smokey roast malt, a touch of walnut, light chocolate, a hint of ash, it's OK but it seems to be missing something.
F: Medium body, smooth mouthfeel and slightly creamy.
O: A solid enough dark lager but it seems to be missing something that I can't quite put my finger on.

12 ounce can with no discernible date.
Moderate pour yields a one inch tan head over a near black body with lacing.
Nose of very roasty dark roasted malts, burnt pumpernickel bread.
Taste is a little burnt pumpernickel bread with a burnt caramel middle giving way to a dry finish.
Good feel with medium carbonation.
Overall, there are many, better dark lagers out there.

On LUKR at the brewery. Khaki head. Lace. Dark brown color.
Roasted with figs and tannins. Cocoa and caramel. Nutty. Dark dried fruits.
Decent, but not as creamy as I’d have liked.
