Picked up a 0.5l bottle of the 2017 release from the Brewery while visiting with Alewife in May '19... Going to dive in now out in The 'Zebo while enjoying Labor Day...
Popped the cap and it slowly started to foam over. Poured quite slowly into my snifter, and it's 1/2 liquid, 1/2 foam right now. Waiting.... slow going... Finally got most of the glass filled . It has a muted, flat, dark chestnut color. Though quite opaque, I can see a few streams of carbo here and there. The head, still slowly ebbing back from the initial 2", is a rich beige; light, fluffy and mousse-like. It smells "dry", if that's possible. Has some dark cherry as well as a touch of wood and earthiness. Body is medium to medium-plus, and it's rather smooth overall.
It's semisweet, with lots of cherry notes, plus some raisin and date. Am also picking up some sherry action, and more oaky, earthy notes. Has a subtle bit of tartness in the dryish finish. Probably better enjoyed during a cold, winters night, it is still quite pleasant on an overcast, slightly cool late summer afternoon.... Cheers!!
