As per the brewery description: "Franklinstein: Belgian Dubbel Pumpkin Ale - HBVC’s “monster pumpkin beer.” Rich, malty, complex Belgian flavor featuring traditional pumpkin spices, mustard seed, and cayenne. Think…big, Belgian pumpkin milkshake! Driven by nitrogen for silky mouthfeel. Brewed in honor of Coach Franklin and the Return to Glory of the PSU football program."
Had on-tap at HVBC, poured into a snifter.
L: Pours a deep amber with 2 fingers of thick creamy white head.
S: Pumpkin and spices, a bit yeasty.
T/F: Smooth and creamy... just what you'd expect on nitro. Flavor is malt forward, pumpkin pie and spices with some Belgian yeasts. Complex and avoids the 'Pumpkin soda" trap. Different from most other Pumpkin beers I've sampled.
O: Sort of a chimera of styles... a pumpkin ale mixed with a dubbel and it works out pretty well. Not one I'd drink a lot of, but a nice change of pace during a session. Overall strong effort and having it on nitro adds a great creaminess to the brew.
