Rob fell in love with Weiss beers while in Germany a couple years ago. However, it was a business trip, so much of the experience of Germany was through the passenger window of the car at 200 km/hr on the autobahn. With 70% of the grist being wheat, this beer will have a wheaty flavor and the noble hops used in the brewing process are almost undetectable. To avoid the overly banana/ apple/pear aroma and flavor sometimes noticed in hefeweizens, we ferment at a lower temperature for a period time then allow the fermentation temperature to naturally rise as energy from the yeast is released. This gives our hefeweizen a great balance of clove and banana so your pallet is completely satisfied.

i think perhaps we got spoiled a little bit by having these guys release their berliner before anything else. it was everyones first impression of them, and it was a banger, really pretty epic and unprecedented, but each successive release has failed to get anywhere near it, and this is arguable the worst beer i have had from them, really lackluster. it doesnt even do the style quite right i dont think, sure there is some banana fruit to the yeast complexion, but i dont taste much wheat, and what i do taste is watered down and weak. there is a lot of haze to it, but not a whole lot of head, and not a whole lot of body. i like a sturdy and creamy well carbonated take on the style, so this fails big time there for me. where other beers, even ones i liked less than the berliner, at least strive to be unique and evolutionary to one degree or another, this does little for me, and rather than pioneering, it almost seems like a botched attempt. that said, i still have pretty unwavering faith in this operation, and id be shocked if they couldnt turn around a simple here. maybe something to do with temperatures went awry, its just off, but like almost every single beer that touches my lips, it has potential! nowhere to go really but up on this one, at least by their standards.

I understand that this beer was a bit rough the first time around. Rob the brewer seems to have dialed it in this time around. Not my favorite Hefe out there but that's just a matter of taste. This was still and excellent rendition of the style; give it another shot if you didnt like it the first time around!
