Colorado resides over a large portion of the Niobrara formation. The Niobrara is important for a couple reasons, the chalk, which stout water requires, and the black liquid energy, which stouts resemble. Available on the nitro faucet (most of the time) this stout has the chocolate, coffee flavors you’re craving when a stout is on your mind. Too many different malts to list and a couple varietals of hops balance this stout well. We add some lactose at the end of the boil to give it a smooth mouthfeel and sweetness.

Served on cask at Grist...why are they serving a milk stout on cask?
***
12/26/17 stole this from my sister since she loved the peppermint porter I got and I wanted to do her a solid.
Lactose/milk sugar, chocolate malts, hints of cold brew, dark malt sweetness.
Not awful, but in a state in which Left Hand Milk Stout is ubiquitous, you've got to do better.

So, i got the second batch of this stout and it's apparently FAR better than their first batch. The staff admitted that the first rendition of this beer was a far cry from what they expected out of it. This brewery is brand new so it's normal to have to dial things in at first.
Beer is a slightly stronger version of Guinness with perhaps a bit more of an acidulated malt bite to it on the end with a bit more body and perhaps sweetness. Very nicely done; could drink this all day!

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
