On tap at the brew pub bar in a big, heavy ( 16 oz/ maybe 14) goblet/ chalice/ snifter.
Dark mahogany brown with hints of ruby with a low tannish head. One swirl with a stir stick threw a decent head that dissipated as quickly as it kicked up.
Aromas of mashed cherries and yeasty berries under a candy sugar glaze of sweetness. A good nose but lacks the caramelized grain character that sets the good dubbels apart from the also rans.
Flavors are again on point for style but not distinctly "Belgian" in character. More stone fruit and dark grains soaked in brown sugar play well with the tobacco and leather notes of the hops. Very complex flavors that erupt in the mouth as it comes up to temp.
Body is medium-heavy, allowing sipping or satisfying swallows. Tongue weight seems heavy but easy going down - not over sweet or cloying.
The beer could use a recipe tweak or 2 and conditioning could be better but a pretty good example of the style.

On tap at the brew house

Served in a tulip
Appearance is dark amber, almost brown. Small white tan head, a few small patches of lacing. Aroma is malty with caramel/toffee and dark fruits, along with subtle spice and a bit yeasty. Taste is a fairly spicy, malty and yeast. Candied sugar, and subtle dark fruit. Mouthfeel is medium with carbonation on the higher end. Drinkability is good. Overall a nice beer but nothing crazy.
