Oregon Pony looks beautiful. The pitch black fluid is covered by a persistent tan head that leaves spotty lacing throughout.
The aroma is abundant with piney, earthy, and spicy hops. The deep roasted malts lays a wonderful support to the pungent flowers.
Though the roasted grain and piney hops have a significant role, I can't get over a medicinal flavor. For 9.9% abv, there is no notion of alcohol, but the metallic and medicinal notes are hard to ignore.
It surprisingly is lighter than expected, but has a good hefty and toasty bitterness. Well carbonated and ends pretty dry.
This wasn't one of my favorites from Thunder Island. It was decent, but I wouldn't order it again due to the medicinal characteristic. It wasn't off putting, but it was distracting enough to deny full enjoyment. Cheers.
