Had at the brewery the day after Christmas, labelled as a Black Saison, which has me simultaneously worried and intrigued. Intrigued that I enjoy the description and the odd combination of flavors, but worried since I have never had an great "black saison". Pours with porter-like colors, off-white head quiets down quickly. Smell is a real odd one, for sure, you get that yeast up front, bubble gum like phenols mixed in with some dark malts for fruitiness. The taste isn't such a good blend though, it's got some roasted malt character to it, but the yeast spice really clashes and overall it's not such a cohesive blend, the finish is lingering and a bit medicinal. Another black saison let down. The body is thin and overall this was my least favorite at this brewery.
