this has the potential to be amazing, but there is an odd dusty almost staleness hanging over it. not sure when it was made, but maybe the coffee has faded some and some slight oxidation has messed with the dark malts, still, its an excellent and very distinct beer from these guys, who really seem to be finding their stride right now. brewed with cold extracted coffee from fort collins, nutmeg, and cinnamon. i think it looks more like a brown than a stout, a little thin with some light passing through. there is that coco malt thing going on in the taste and less of the dark unmalted roasted barley, but it seems intentional, like they did that to clear space for the coffee, and that aspect is nice, even if its a little lighter than i would prefer it to be. the coffee is strong, and has an almost smoked quality about it, nice with the cinnamon, but they could have scaled the spice back a bit and i wouldnt have missed it. the nutmeg is lost a little to the cinnamon, but they are both there, turkish coffee vibe without the usual cardamom thing, its nice, warming with the alcohol, and quite unusual overall. i like where these guys are going with their beer. they need to find a way to check the price points a little, this is a few bucks too expensive for what it is, but i like the experimental use of coffee. comforting and good this one, i need to make it up to the taproom here before too long...
