im not sure who in gods name could drink a whole one of these, but a maple pecan strong ale that isnt a stout or a porter is insanely appealing to me on paper, and i think the execution is pretty good, if you can tolerate the sweetness. the base beer is full bodied and sugary on its own i suspect, and the pretty auburn hue imparted by the additives makes it awfully pretty in the glass. the aroma is intense, more maple than anything else, but lots of brown sugar and fusel alcohol too, its hot to breath in, even after i let it sit on the bar awhile. i immediately get a candied vibe in the flavor, like a praline or something, but the nut part isnt pronounced enough to offset the maple and the malt sugary character, appealing sure, even through the booze, but this is downright diabetic and i struggle to even finish a small pour of it for that reason. the maple part seems to be fermenting out kind of rapidly, while the nut may have never even been all that pronounced. i like the complexity and the dessert part comes through nicely, but its almost too much of a good thing. cool to see these ingredients in a paler brew, but this is a novelty to me at this residual sugar level. my least favorite of the beers i had in here today...
