another exceptionally good wild type from these guys, this one is a wood aged saison base done with gewurztraminer grapes. i have been loving grape beers of late, and this is a really neat one. its super sour, i was immediately surprised by how acidic it is, clean enough, but man its really sharp. mouthwatering in the nose and almost painful on the teeth and tongue as i sip it, i wish that element were scaled back a bit, this would be world class. perhaps they thought some of the natural sweetness of the white grapes would remain and balance it, but its a little overcooked in that regard. it doesnt depreciate my enjoyment of the beer though, it just limits how much of it i can reasonably consume. the grape part of this is amazing, white wine tannins and fruitiness abound in nose and taste, white peach, green pear, ripe white currant, even gooseberry notes to this if i think on it. minerals too, earthy and grounding and clean, nice with the wheat in the base of this, and there is a freshness to it all despite the obvious oaked maturity. the acidity is really high, but the carbonation is nice and the body is light, so this still has a lot of life to it. the grape flavor comes back on the swallow too which is cool, and overall this is really interesting and delicious. i think wiley roots remains one of the most most underrated breweries in the state...
