done in collaboration with mile high wine and spirits, one of the best beer stores in the city for sure! cool they got together for this one, a big bad imperial stout aged in buffalo trace bourbon barrels. its got a ton of character, isnt overdone with adjuncts, and drinks rich, bold, and wintery. perfect for this time of year. the beer is coal black, shiny, and without much head or evident viscosity, despite its real dark color, it doesnt look as intimidating as a lot of these. aroma is whiskey driven, with vanilla, charred oak, and honey coming right to the front along with quite a bit of alcohol. it doesnt quite sting, but its strong to be sure. really interesting in behind all that in the flavor though too, raisins and cocoa fudge, light smoke, deep bitter coffee roast, and just a hint of brown sugar sweetness. barrel is awesome, this really does have a lot of bourbon to it, but the stout seems flavorful enough even without that. it could stand a little more body to go along with the booze, it seems just a little exposed to me, but i like the flavors a lot, dig the length of the finish and the layers it has. overall a really solid beer, wiley roots always impresses. glad i got a chance to share this with good friends, its definitely a can to share!
