on paper this sounds like everything i stand against, a sour milkshake ipa dry hopped to absurdity with some vanilla and cocoa in it for good measure, like, why not throw it all in there ya know? but this is somehow good, better than good, even awesome, its crazy, the cocoa adds some earthy bitterness, even a kiss of cookie and smoke, makes it way more complex than it might otherwise be, and the sourness is minimal, tart at most and with some obvious lemon to it, sweet even pie-like with the vanilla, it makes great sense and the execution is flawless. the dry hopping compliments all of it somehow, denali seems to have this effect sometimes, desserty and fruity and just working in well with whatever recipe it dips into. this is fruity but its not sweet, vanilla forward but not desserty, sour but not so much that it slows me down even a little, and just overall amazing. i didnt expect to like this, but i loved it, the cocoa part makes it special. maybe there isnt another brewery out there that could do this so well. it shouldnt work, but it does...
