August 12th, 2015 - I'm loving seeing more New Zealand hops come to Southern California, even if its a bit hard to hunt down. Groundswell has decided to apply their box of the stuff into a blonde ale, though the hops must be moderate in their addition since the smell is still a bit hard to grasp. It's got a little golden ale sweetness with grape, but more emphasis on white peach. The palate is soft and has a forward carbonation, and a foretaste of subtle white grape, apple and white peach. The softest hops flavor are in there and mix with the esters to make a lichee taste - a unique and welcome taste.

Rich golden color in the tulip glass. Very light and tangy with a modest dose of hoppy flavors. Hops, the brewer told us, are Wakatu, a New Zealand variety related to Hallertau Mittelfruh.
Some club soda taste and a bright spritzy mouthfeel. Very thin body but the refreshing style. Some nice aromatics in the nose. Just a whiff of the faintly fruity hops. A nutty flavor adds a nice touch. On tap at the brewery in east Mission Valley.

Had on tap at the brewery. Billed as a New Zealand blonde ale, it was brewed with New Zealand hops. Typical blonde coloration, nice stark white head. Quite spicy initially, then malty at the midpoint. I would describe the flavor as a toasted corn bread, sweet and bready but not in a hefeweizen sense. I enjoy a nice malty beer and I found this beer quaffable enough to take home a growler full. At 4.5ABV, this may become my "light" beer of choice.
