This is an uplifting concept for a beer company. Employ loyal men who served in the armed forces in unpopular and unsuccessful wars. Having had bad breaks early in life, they are getting a better break as civilians. I wish Veteran Beer well.
I wish I could say they have a really good recipe here. But nonetheless, it is a respectable beer. Malty, but enough spark to keep it interesting. Freedom Road doesn't try to do too much; but it also doesn't get above the average. But given the meal I just had it with, average is just good enough.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 5/25/2016. Pours crystal clear orange/copper color with a 1 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of cracker, toasted biscuit, brown sugar, light caramel/nuttiness, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, and toasted earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of dark/bready malt and light earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of cracker, toasted biscuit, brown sugar, light caramel/nuttiness, herbal, floral, grass, light pepper, and toasted earthiness. Light herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of cracker, toasted biscuit, brown sugar, light caramel/nuttiness, floral, grass, and herbal/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and robustness of dark/bready malt and light earthy hop flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Very clean on lager flavors with zero yeast notes present. Light-moderate dryness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, creamy/grainy, and slightly sticky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5%. Overall this is a good amber lager. All around good balance and robustness of dark/bready malt and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink. Was hoping for a bit more hop presence, but the malt profile was really tasty. A nicely enjoyable offering.
