Appearance: Pours a hazy amber color with a fluffy white head; decent stickage and lacing

Smell: Dank, bright and juicy, with tropical fruit tones of pineapple and guava, as well as nectarine and strawberry

Taste: Bright, with all kinds of juicy flavors, ranging from tropical tones of pineapple and guava to strawberry and nectarine; the dankness builds in the middle, with moderate bitterness; very juicy in the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A great, modern DIPA; loads of juicy flavor with just enough bitterness to add balance

A: Pours a slightly hazy honey orange in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass and faint copper + golden yellow highlights. The beer has a finger tall foamy off-white head that reduces to a large patch of very thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer surrounded by a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Just shy of strong aromas of stone fruit/apricot, tropical/mango, citrus/grapefruit, and pine hops over the top of moderately sweet bready malts.

T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of bready malts with a slightly heavier than moderate amounts of caramel + honey-like sweetness. That is followed by slightly shy of strong flavors of tropical/mango, stone fruit/apricot, citrus/grapefruit, and dank resinous pine hops which contribute a slightly stronger than moderate amount of bitterness which slowly fades away.

M: Slightly heavier than medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Initially crisp with a light to moderate amount of oily slickness in the finish. Hints of dryness.

O: Extremely fresh bottle, released less than a week ago and the hop flavors and aromas were huge + enjoyable. Drinks quite easily with well hidden ABV. Really nice balance of sweetness from malts, hop flavors + aromas, and bitterness. Definitely worth grabbing if you get the chance.

I am going to have to revisit Freak of Nature because Hubris may be my new favorite DIPA from my home state. The closest beer that I have had would be the Stone Enjoy By series, though this one was a little less hoppy. Very flavorful, smooth and dangerously drinkable!

8/7/16 brewery release. Drank from tap and from 22 oz. Great beer. Very fruity and sweet without being too malty. Little better than I recall from last year so raised the rating a touch.

Nice dark orange pour with a big head that hung around for the whole beer and left some nice lacing. Smell is nice with peaches, mangoes, citrus and pine. The taste followed suit with an overripe mango taste in the middle followed by a pleasing bitterness. It had a nice sweetness and a medium body. This is really a good IIPA that I hope I can find again.

A: Pours a slightly hazy honey color with two fingers of white head that fades into a thin ring with great lacing.

S: Tropical notes dominate with lots of orange aromas. Peaches, pineapples, and nectarines come through as well along with an aroma that reminds me of orange wedge candies.

T: The flavor has more citrus rind going on with melon flavors coming through as well before a more earthy, resinous pine finish. There's a light alcohol presence and lingering bitterness.

M: Medium body and carbonation, this beer has a slight oily feel but is still drinkable.

O: A pretty damn good DIPA, overall, and a bit different than most with its hop aromas and flavors.

A - Golden, Slight haze. Beautiful looking beer in a tulip glass.

S - Tons of Citrus, Grapefruit, Mango, Pine

T - Follows the aroma. Surprisingly easy to drink considering 8.7%abv. Don't detect any booze at all. Well done

M - Light feeling for 8.7…70 IBU's is a nice combo

O -World class beer. Hard to get if you don't live near Raleigh, NC. This Imperial IPA can stand up to the best out there including Heady, Pliny, Sunshine etc...

O - not a ton going on but an amazing balanced grapefruit burst dipa. Fantastic

This DIPA lives up to the hype. I would definitely put it in my top 5 and I can't give an exact order because they are all great, Sip of Sunshine, Hubris, Heady Topper, and both Pliny. It's got a dank nose, citrus notes, hints of booziness at times (not sure if it's really 8.7% or if it's more like 10.5%), but it is balanced, smooth, and dangerously addictive.

A: golden IPA. Fine head settles down quickly to minimal lacing.
S: well rounded hop aroma.
T: neutral front is quickly followed by explosion of hops. Taste is quite smooth for the hopiness.
F: rich and full. Coats the tongue but not cloying.
Overall: Exceptional. One of the best imperial IPAs I've tasted.

Light amber, decent head but no lace. Catty aroma. Nice balance between malt sweetness and hop acidity, perhaps leaning a bit toward the dry side. Big pine characteristics. Soft. Finish is not so bitter. Surprisingly noticeable alcohol for the ABV.

Clear golden color covered with a slim, creamy white head. Sticky fruit aromas...big mango, grapefruit, and peaches over some dank, resinous pine needles, and weedy/grassy hop pellets. Oily, sticky hop resins, peaches, pink grapefruit juice, pineapple, grape, and some fresh, spicy dankness. Almost minty in its brightness. Snappy, but with a slight creaminess to fluff it up. Fresh, oily, and resinous. Just a whiff of alcohol here and there and a little burn in the throat, but really pretty easy to drink. Less ripe, fruity, fructose sweetness than last year. Impressive.
