The legend of sleepy hollow lives on with Ichabod pumpkin ale. This flagship seasonal combines malted barley and real pumpkin with cinnamon and nutmeg in a delicious and inviting brew, perfectly paired with all things autumn.

12 oz can pours a clear orange/amber with small vanishing head. Aroma has pumpkin, vanilla, pepper, and cloves. Body is light with average carbonation. Taste is neither sweet nor bitter - just spiced vegetables. This is a less than average pumpkin beer. At least I waited until January to get it for less than half price.

I first has this a few zillion years ago and thought it was just okay. But I really, really wanted to like it because it's from New Holland and, you know, the name. A Washington Irving reference in my beer? It's more likely than you think.

Maybe it's me. Maybe it's them. But this is good stuff. I guess I got ahead of myself. A HEAD! Get it? Is this thing on?

Look is amber. Smell is fresh pumpkin. Taste is of pumpkin pie. Feel is light to medium bodied. Overall, a good pumpkin ale and example of the style. One of the better and more readily available pumpkin beers from Michigan.

Brief Review:

O: Holy lord, how have I not reviewed this yet?? This is honestly one of my favorite pumpkins beers of all time. This one really got me in to the fall beers/pumpkins/octoberfests. This and Jaw Jacker and Bell's Octoberfest are the OGs! This was always my favorite (still is) because it's very simple and drinkable. Some pumpkins beers can be overly spiced to death and they're too perfume-y. This one is very balanced and done exactly how I like it. Not too artificial, not too sweet, just right. Shout out to the OG label/bottle as well on the picture here!

Recommendation: Still around and kickin'! If anyone asked me my favorite pumpkin beer or what I would choose to represent this style, it's this one.

Fine orange-ish amber color; crystal clear; modest carbonation; big, thick head, dense and creamy in texture; nice partial rings and sheets of foam stick to the glass. Very faint aroma; mild pumpkin note. The taste follows along the lines of the smell; dainty pumpkin and harvest spices; mild overall bitterness. Medium body; fairly coarse on the palate; fair residual sugar feel; semi-dry finish.

At only six months of age, I would expect a bolder smell and aroma profile, but it wasn't there with this beer. Decent overall, but not by much.

Pouring temperature: 42 °F; canning info: 06/27/22

The pour is amber colored. The taste is sweet pumpkin with a touch of cinnamon. Overall, this was a pleasant light bodied pumpkin ale. Cheers! B
