On tap at the New Holland Brew Pub, reviewed from notes.
Served in a New Holland Pint Glass (which was later wrapped up and given to me by the generous bartender!). The reddish, hazy body hid beneath a thick layer of tan foam. The head slowly dissipated, leaving behind lots of lace.
The nose has toasted malts, caramel, peat and small amounts of molasses present.
The flavor of this beer is similar to the nose. The sweet malts are balanced out by the earthy undertones. Resiny toward the finish...even a little boozy.
Medium mouth feel, somehow oily and drying at the same time. Mild carbonation.
This is a pretty decent offering. Nothing I would go out of my way for, but worth a try.

Tried a pint of this on-tap at the New Holland Brewpub. Listed there under the name "Uncle Heavy." Pours an opaque black with ruby edges. Small, off-white head, decent retention on it. Smells and tastes of molasses, caramel. Decent malty center to the brew. Higher alcohol, but it's hidden well. Slightly bitter finish. A tad chalky, and not as strong as I would like a Scotch Ale to be. Medium-bodied mouthfeel. The carbonation continued throughout the entire drinking session. Overall, a good, solid Scotch Ale, one I would gladly drink again, just not as thick and strong as I prefer the style.

Pours a dark caramel red with a minor ring of tan head.
Aroma of caramel, slight roasted barley note and some spicy and resined bitterness.
Flavor is dominated by caramel and toffee notes. Full resiny bittering with some spicy hop notes. Slight diacetyl note detected.
Mouthfeel is rich and light spices and some roasted nuttiness. Solid, if not spectacular. Notmwuite enough spice or roast for style.
Drinkability is good. Not exact to style but a realy good drinking beer.

On cask on 1/21/05. Pours a nice dark brown, almost black color. Smell hits me in the nose, full of butterscotch. Slight carmel notes as well, but this beer almost smells like I'm sucking on a Werthers Orginals. Taste has the hint of the butterscotch, but it fades to a malty flavor. Slighty thick and chewy. Something I could drink all night long.
