Black in color with a fingernail of brown around the rim. The smell is of rum and plenty of dark malt. I’m tasting a blend of a hefty dose of malt and rum. There’s more rum as it warms. The mouth is warm and thick.

Poured from a 500 ml bomber purchased at the brewery and dated 10/03/22 into two Scotch thistle glasses.
Look: Very dark brown with a 1” tan head that lingered and left a cap and abundant lacing.
Nose: Rum, raisin, and brown sugar.
Mouthfeel: Wonderfully thick, with adequate carbonation.
Attack: Strong dark malt, dark chocolate, and otherwise closely following the nose especially with the rum, and the perfect sweetness increases as the ale warms.
Finish: A perfect balancing bitterness from the dark roast.
Overall: This. Is. Wonderful. It’s an outstanding celebration of New Holland’s 25 years. I think I only bought one bottle of it when we visited the brewery a few months ago, and I wish I’d bought more. We’re pairing it on this special evening with pulled venison sandwiches with our homemade Kansas City-style barbecue sauce, but this fine ale would pair with many hearty dishes as well as being a great sipper on its own. Congratulations, New Holland, on 25 great years (even if this congratulations is a year late!).
