Notes: DIPA brewed with a combo of two classic New Zealand hops. Nelson provides gooseberry, grassy, tropical fruit character with a little dankness and the Motueka adds some beautiful lemon/lime character.

Picked this up at the brewery the day it was released, as this beer had a canning date of 9/9 below "Helenahandbasket". All of their offerings have been great lately and it's nice to see Other Half brew more beers featuring one or two particular hops. This was one of the examples of what that was as both the Nelson and Motueka were allowed to equally shine here without feeling overpowering or overly bitter.

This had the typical Other Half look to it as the dank, melon hue and fluffy head were an indication of what was to come. The lacing left behind was a spotty web that served as an indication of the moderate consistency of this beer. Lots of dank melon and honeydew in the nose to go along with a lemon and lime zest as the two styles complemented each other nicely. The gooseberry came out in the taste as this was juicier than I would have been led to believe. Really nice mouthfeel to this as this felt a bit like wine between how light it was and the white grape that seemed to be the underlying and uniting flavor between the two hops. A good amount of bready yeast, moderate carbonation, and light tropical aftertaste were all indicators how well this beer was crafted as none of them were detracting in any way.

To be fair, the alcoholic content was just a notch too high here but it couldn't be detected on the tongue. I felt just a slight dizziness when I finished this but the slick aftertaste and dry dankness were enough to have me wanting more. The juiciness of the gooseberry tied into the aftertaste well and the lemon and lime gave this beer the bright and tangy side that kept the dankness from feeling too heavy. I loved how this grew on me throughout my session and how it showed that a double-hopped beer could be as good as any collaboration or experimental beer that Other Half has released in recent months. Solid stuff that showcased everything put into it beautifully.

Poured from a can into a teku glass.
L: Pours a hazy golden orange, with a decent size head that dissipates fairly quickly with good lacing.
S: Smells somewhat fruity but not overly strong.
T: I just didn't get a bunch from this. I've read others say it has great hop character mixed with types of fruit - but I just didn't get that. It was subtly bitter, and in fact a bit more than I expected from a beer that color. The hops weren't "shining through" to me.
F: The mouthfeel was great - thick but smooth & creamy.
O: Enjoyable, but nothing to write home about.

Look is like sort of dark orange juice.
Smell is sort of spicy but really hoppy and citrus. Sort of like mosaic dream but with the spicyness.
Initial taste is bitter but mellows out to a mango flavor. Really good and smooth.

Pours cloudy and amber/gold, smells like tropical fruits. Taste is surprisingly mellow: sweet, and tropical and melon. There is a slight grape/wine flavor at the end, and the bitterness is very mild. Smooth, creamy, and easy to drink. I was surprised how much I like this, usually I don't like Nelson hops. This was extremely enjoyable.

Acquired in trade. Beer smells amazing with the two very aromatic hops used in this beer. Not a fan of Nelson by itself ,but with motueka the combination plays well together.

A very interesting beer I would seek out again

Growler shared by Jake. Thanks man!

Bright yellow body with a thin, soapy white head. Aromas of melon, pineapple, tangerine, fresh hops. Juicy and delicious. Mind bitterness and high drinkability. One of the best offerings I've had this far from Other Half.

L - an appealing concoction of orange and pineapple juice. Creamy haze coming out of the can, settling into a cloudy bleak sandstorm. Strong head and lasting lacing.

S - the Nelson is strong in this one! Immediate white grapes up front with Kalamata olives. A yeasty, grassy earthiness in the middle, finishing with mandarin orange and doughy bread. Smells brighter than other Nelson beers. Leans further from wine and closer to white grape juice.

S - grassy white grapes. The smell hints toward 100% grape juice, something a little darker, but the taste is far brighter. Like sunlight-infused sparkling white grape juice! The Motueka adds a candied sweetness to counteract the bitter grapes. A touch of lime and dank peachy mango. The dank is also deceptive because it tastes earthy, but doesn't leave that stickiness coating your mouth. Supremely drinkable. Not a whole lot of bitterness makes the finish gentle and entices another sip.

F - so much cream. Like gargling puréed peaches. Blends beautifully with the vinous Nelson character.

O - stellar beer from Other Half. Two unique hops with a strong flavor arc come together to hold hands and sing songs about intoxicating your ass with delightfully pungent and smooth flavors of grape and lemon-lime candy.

we are assuredly discussing the absolute upper echelon of american ipa right here, very much in this new haze bomb east coast juicy tradition, i love this beer, but i love nelson so much it would be hard not to, this is one of the best recent examples of what this hop is all about. i almost dont even need the motueka, and am a little unsure of its contribution, maybe some of that grassy and lime stuff in the background, but the juicy grapey lemony fleshy pulpy nelson is there all the way, right in front, especially in the nose where it really delivers. i found this so much more bold and dynamic than any of the other half hoppy beers we drank, and i sure wish it were available out here in colorado. thank goodness my buddy went to the release and hooked it up, i can imagine not having been able to try this one. so much nelson, if you know the profile, youll know what this one is like, its perfect. so sneaky strong too, it drinks like 5% and i just kept right on going, this beer holding my attention and interest the entire time, something almost sensual about these hops, oily and slick, different and bold but also real smooth, especially with this fuller and fluffier base. man this is a beauty, my favorite of the other half stuff i have tried so far by a considerable margin. definitely deserves to be up there in the conversations with trillium and tree house and all of that. world class to the last drop.

Possibly an oxidized can. Lots of funky, wet cardboard on the aroma and flavor. Barely a hint of fruit; just a hint of grape and lemon-lime on the flavor. Great, thick mouthfeel, but a very off-putting aroma/taste overall.

This one pours a pretty hazy orange, with a small head, and lots of sticky lacing.

This smells much softer and fruitier than the typical dank hop weapon I'm used to from Other Half- there's tons of melon, mango, white grape, with a hint of grass and green on the finish.

This is absolutely wonderful. Both hops shine, and provide an absolutely killer hoppy character. I get tons of melon, classic Nelson white grape, mango, peach, and lime. There's a hint of grassiness, and dankness, on the finsh, but it's not as well pronounced as other Other Half beers tend to be. This is much softer and silky than I'm used to with Other Half IPAs, and that change-up is really nice to me.

This has slightly creamy, and very soft and airy mouthfeel, with a good level of carbonation.

This one of Other Half's best beers yet- I absolutely adore this beer.

The beer comes in a light to medium gold super hazy.

The aroma hits of mango, peach, chemical dank, paint, grass, grapefruit peel.

The flavor follows with juicy mango, more peach, some goose berry. The beer stays creamy, almost milky and luscious. There's a hint of chemically dank with art class, paint for days. The finish is a bit dank, but a lot more subtle compared to other OH brews.

From a can dated 9/9/16. Dirty orange pour with a super sticky, lacy head. Smells sweet and citrusy. Taste has the Motueka juicy sweetness and some of that bitter Nelson funk. Very smooth mouthfeel. Finish is sweet with a slightly bitter fade.
