A hoppy wheat ale brewed in collaboration with a close friend of the brewery, Portland, OR based The Vanilla Workshop. They make some of the finest hand-built bikes in the business and we decided to team up to make this beer for some upcoming events they are doing in NYC in early November 2016. Speedvagen is a brand of race bikes they make and the name of this beer is inspired by their tradition of offering a surprise me! color option every season when you are given your new bike in a surprise color scheme.

Poured into a becher pint glass, the appearance was a semi-hazy copper color with a thin white foamy head that dissipated at a decent pace. Light messy lace. The aroma had some peach and mango sweetness, light grassy sweet hops, hint of bitter dried orange peel and a super light lemon rind. The flavor was sweet with some zestiness to it. Light bitterness. Smooth sweet to bitter to zesty aftertaste. Quick semi-sweet to dry bitter finish. The palate was between light and medium bodied with the assumed sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt as projected. Overall, pretty good APWA, nothing really over the top.

Picked this beer up when Other Half released it as I finally got around to it tonight. Plenty of taste and body here for something without a lot of alcohol, as the bottom of the can was dated 10/7 with "Gentle Lover" written above it. Lots of flavor in here as this was one of the few session brews that I had lately that didn't taste or feel weak in the least!

This had a good pour to it as the beer came out like melon rind, with a very cloudy appearance to it, sufficient haze, and a nice and thin consistency to it. Lots of melon hops, grass, and sugared fruit in the taste with a surprising amount of alcohol to go along with it, for a beer of this style. Dry and easygoing, the wheat gave this plenty of body as this still slid down fairly easily, with the grassy hops and melon sticking around for a long while once the liquid was out of my glass.

Weak enough to be a session beer, this was something I'd only have one can at a time. This felt so much like Other Half's IPA's because of the hops used and their trademark yeast but for a welcome change of pace, this wasn't too bad. Worth a go once to feel surprised, if for no other reason!

The beer comes in a hazy straw color. Very pale and almost like glow stick liquid.

The aroma is a bit sweet, almost like it is unfinished, citrus and grass.

The flavor follows with tropical fruit, candied fruits, lemon, grass, juicy mango/pineapple, with some wheat and grain, onto a minerality that quenches the palate, almost as if there was a salinity to the brew.

The mouthfeel is medium minus to light, keeping the beer crisp, while still being held up by the 50% wheat in the grist.

From a can dated 10/7/16 GENTLE LOVER. Cloudy pale yellow pour, thin white head. Way more full-flavored than a 4% abv beer, as sweet citrus and a hint of vegetal grass come through. Love the additional of Hallertau. Wheat adds more to the mouthfeel than the flavor. Finish is sweet and clean with a lingering bitterness.
